Dead Space Remake Review, Can We Just Hide?

As many blogs as I have done on this game, and I’m just now getting around to a Dead Space Remake review. Better late than never, I suppose.

Story

I’ve discussed some of this before, but if it is your first time playing, the changes in the story make so much sense, and it overall makes for a better experience. Even for veterans, the new content makes it a bit more interesting, despite the ending being the same.

There is a secret ending, only obtainable after completing the game once and collecting 12 Marker Fragments spread around the Ishimura. I won’t spoil what the ending is, but it’s something to give hope for future titles.

Gameplay

Forget what you knew about the original. The remake takes the refined mechanics from the 2nd game, and makes them even better. Smoother gun control, alternate fire reworks, and the change from the OG Zero G hopping to real hovering. Add this with the new doors, lockers and boxes locked by a security level, and side missions that give more insight into our favorite characters.

The biggest, and best, part to the remake is the whole USG Ishimura is now open for exploration. You can easily get to any part of the ship in chapter 11, revisit locations for side missions, doors that couldn’t be opened before and such.

Graphics

I can’t say I usually pay too much attention to this when playing, because to me a game can be great even with lower end graphics, but I have to admit, this is leaps above the OG. As it should be course, but seeing the Ishimura remade, well, it’s horrible and beautiful all at once.

The Necromorphs look bloody disgusting, and it makes it all the better.

Controls

I feel as if I’ve already covered some of this above, but it felt worthy to touch it. Some weapons now have alternative firing depending on how hard you clamp down on the back trigger. They put the adaptive and haptic feedback to work on the Dualsense.

Conclusion

Though I did question Dead Space was worth $70, as a long time fan, I think it is worth playing through at least once, if not multiple times, even if you’ve played the OG. Amazon (paid link) does have copies for $55 currently, which is still a good deal. It’s money well spent.
