That time again, even if it really hasn’t been that long ago that my July game pickups were posted. Well, I managed to get some games I’ve been really wanting, and I’m excited to talk about them. Let’s hop in to my August game pickups.
Nintendo DS

Digimon World DS
This is a game I’ve been wanting to add to my collection for years. I did play it many years ago as a rental from Gamefly and I even owned a loose copy just 5 or 6 years ago, but sold it off. Well, I finally got myself a copy and have been enjoying my time immensely. As much as a Digimon mood I’ve been in (big thanks to Digimon World: Next Order for that), this has really hit the spot.
Hamsterz
I bought this as part of healing a childhood memory I stole from myself. Years ago, in 2007, I had surgery and my sister got me this game as a gift to help cheer me up and to just be nice. I have some good memories with it but I ultimately sold it at some point in my adult life. Well, I had to get it back and heal part of that memory.
Switch

Rejoinder
So I haven’t actually tried this one for longer than a couple of minutes. Although I typically get absorbed into roguelike games, this one just didn’t grab me right away. That’s okay though, maybe another time.
PS5

Cat Quest III
I’ve been a big fan of the (paid link) Cat Quest games for awhile, and even wrote a review for the first one. The stories that they tell, the humor and the gameplay is just pure fun. This entry specifically deals with pirates and traveling around in a ship, which is a good difference from the past two games where you walk everywhere.
Steam

Pools
I’ve played through chapter 1 so far, and I’m starting to see the appeal behind it. There is no music, just the sounds of your environment, and your own footsteps. After I wandered around for a while, I was really starting to question if this game was for me, but then it happened. I started to explore a darker area, where the lights weren’t on or dimmed, and it all made more sense. It started to look much more intimidating, not knowing where to go or if you were alone. Actually, it reminded me of The Suicide of Rachel Foster in some ways.
I have to say, I can’t wait to see the rest. This game seems to have some spooky moments waiting for me. Hopefully, I’ll be writing a review for it next month.
Systems

Mario Kart DS
This just fell in my lap basically, and I didn’t own an original DS system any longer since mine broke, so I thought I would use this one. The hinge of the right side is broken, but otherwise, it works well.
I used to own a turquoise DS, which was my very first. Unfortunately, the hinges completely snapped on it, and the whole take came off. It was a sad day, having to throw that away.
Final Words
It’s much easier to manage these hauls when there isn’t as many games to talk about. I’m quite happy to finally be achieving one of my 2024 goals, and I know I will continue to. With that said, hope someone found a game for themselves today and thank you for reading about my August game pickups.
Peace.
