Awe, isn’t Cat Quest so adorable? With its cute little kitty swinging his axe and killing dragons. Wait…dragons?!

Don’t let the cuteness fool you, Cat Quest can be a difficult title at some points, but we’ll get a bit more into that soon. This is a review, so what are we going to do? Break it down, kitty style!

Gameplay

This is broken up between doing dungeons, story and side quests. Each is important to the game, as where the side quests give the most EXP and money to further your magic skills. New weapons and armor can be obtained by purchasing chests from Kit’s smithy, but the easiest method is to just explore the dungeons.

They all have chests, all of them. You’ll see repeated equipment, but that’s good. As you find the same armor or weapon, the level increases, and it becomes stronger or more sturdy. The better the weapons and armor, the more monsters you’ll defeat and the higher your level will be.

The magic is a different experience, as you’ll have to go to certain mage huts to learn them all, and you’ll need money to do so. Even after purchasing, money is used to increase a magics’ level, but it is worth it. Truthfully, I use magic equally or perhaps more so than the weapons.

Soundtrack

To be honest, this game has some very catchy tunes to it. They’re usually upbeat, and when they change when you’re in a fight, they’re approximately battle ready.

Length

So when you hear RPG, I would say most would think 40+ hours as a normalcy. Cat Quest should take you about 12 for a complete playthrough of all quests, and story. For a game like this one, I actually think it’s great. It isn’t very time consuming, but it can be.

After your first playthrough, you can play on Mew Game, where you can choose different guidelines to play under. Such as an armorless run, no levels, stronger enemies, etc.

Story

You’re traveling on a boat with your sister when suddenly she is taken and you crash into land. Waking up, you soon learn that someone named Drakoth has your her, and this adorable little cat-pixie creature is going to help you get her back. Thankfully, and by some twist of fate, you are a Dragonblood. A cat who is capable of using magic. Okay, it is a bit more complex than that.

As you adventure along, slaying dragons, and visiting ruins, you’ll learn how you were created, why, and by whom. I won’t give spoilers, but your sister plays a part too.

Conclusion

This isn’t a game to sleep on. It is rather cheap, $13-20, perhaps cheaper if caught on sale, which Steam is currently having one. You can buy it currently for $4.41 until March 23rd, which it is worth every penny.
