I’m surprised the year is moving so quickly but here we are already with our 2026 quarter 2 team goals update. I am eager to see how we all have done but before we do, do check out our previous quarter 1 update. Now, let’s get started.

Andrew

Rebuild my Vita Collection

Unfortunately, this is a goal I have failed at during these past three months. I haven’t bought too many games as of late and none have been on the Vita. Thiugh I’m sure thar will change soon since I’ve been eyeing a few.

Play 1 Game from These 5 Series

Klonoa

Resident Evil

Cat Quest

Pokemon

Spyro

Since our last update, I’ve managed to beat (paid link) Resident Evil 8, which I did a review for and also wrote out some tips. I am still working on Pokemon LeafGreen off and on and same with Pokemon Sapphire. I have also officially started Klonoa so that will be another title in the works.

Soft Limit Game Purchases

I feel as if I’ve done a lot of good with this goal. It definitely is the one that has had the most progress since the last update. These are my game totals for each month of the year to date:

January: 30

February: 25

March: 20

April: 4

May: 9

June: 3

As you can see, April, May and June took a nice drop. You can click the months to be redirected to those specific pickup articles. July should see an increase from June, but I think this specific goal is going excellently.

2026 Quarterly 3 Goals Update

My goals have felt like they’ve been on hold since March. At this point, it’s become a bit of a “don’t count on it” situation. I’ve been much busier in my personal life lately, and unfortunately that has taken away a lot of the time and focus I normally dedicate to gaming-related goals.

That said, let’s do a quick status update.

1. Main Goal: Consolidate & Digitize the Collection

Sub Goal: ODEs & Flash Carts

For the most part, it feels like I’ve been changing the box a game comes in rather than actually downsizing the collection.

In some cases, it’s an improvement. For example, Trails to Azure on PS5 combines two PS4 releases into a single package which increases shelf space. Other times, like with Hollow Knight, it’s essentially just there’s a 5 on box instead of a 4.

Even so, I still consider that progress. One of my long-term goals is reducing duplicate ownership across multiple platforms. Upgrading to a preferred version helps eliminate the “good reason” I keep finding to own the same game physically on several systems.

Ideally, as I continue playing more games I will digitize games that didn’t spark with me and expand my Steam library. The number of games occupying shelf space should “allegedly” decrease. I’m hoping the traditional June swoon of no major releases helps to open up more time for me to focus on both playing games and evaluating what actually is worthy to sit on my shelf. lol

As for the sub goal, I haven’t purchased any new physical-to-digital solutions this quarter. With an upcoming three-paycheck month on the horizon, I may finally pick one up. That’s assuming no higher-priority expenses pop up first. Always seems like the dashboard lights in your car go off when you think you’re in the clear.

2. Main Goal: Finish 12 Games

Sub Goal: Replay Favorites or Finish Unfinished Games

The fact that I haven’t finished a single game this year is honestly baffling to me, but that’s where things currently stand.

I’d love to blame it entirely on a lack of time, but if I’m being realistic, I think part of the issue is that some of the games I’ve been playing simply haven’t grabbed my attention the way I expected them to. So I blame them for my failures

Here’s what I’m currently working through:

Currently Playing

Astral Chain – (7 more hours and I will be done)

Zanki Zero (I’m at the first dungeon)

Planned Games

Pokopia

Mega Man Star Force

Danganronpa 2×2

As for the sub goal, I’m still undecided on what game I’ll replay next. Right now, Sakura Wars on the Sega Saturn feels like the frontrunner, but we’ll see where things land.

3. Main Goal: Complete the PS VITA Collection

On paper, I already own a complete North American PS VITA set.

If we’re talking true completion, however, I’m still two games away from owning every ESRB release from both North and South America (the full Region 1 set). The challenge is that those final two titles fall firmly into the category of “financially irresponsible.” They’re not outrageously expensive, but cost enough that I can’t justify buying them without some planning.

Because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised if this goal takes another year or two to finally complete.

In the meantime, I have managed to establish a total game count for all of my pre-current-generation systems. Who hoo!

The last one to set is My current- and last-generation collections. This will continue to fluctuate because both platforms are still receiving new releases. I mean it’s friggen 2026 and the PS4 is still getting releases 13 years after launch.

One factor helping to keep my legacy collection in check is the increasing number of HD collections and enhanced ports. Every time multiple games get bundled into a single release, it helps reduce the overall number of titles I need to keep on hand…

…at least until they port something I want that I don’t already own. Choices, choices lol That being said I hope in Q3 I’ll have more to share.

July 2026 Q2 Goals

Another quarter has passed. Let’s see how I stack up compared to where I started.

1. Play 5 new games, any platform, not a sequel

How did I fair so far, up to July 2026?
Not great. The only new game I’ve played thoroughly is Pokemon Black. I’ve started new games, like Advance Wars Dual Strike and Vampire Crawlers, but I have not completed them. The goal is to add more to my rotation when I’m able to, and play more games.

2. Try 1-3 new genres of games

This goal has also suffered compared to my earlier expectations. Puzzles, sports, and life sims were genres I wanted to dip my toes in, but I haven’t had much luck finding games that meet this criteria. I am a creature of habit, so unless you can give me a game that has puzzles I care about, I’m going to pass. I remain optimistic that there should be more games on Gamepass or the digital game store that might have some more unheard of gems.

I have to do better on this. There are so many games out there in different types I haven’t tried. A good cozy game with light puzzles would be fun to get lost in.

3. Play 1-3 games I missed out on when they first came out

The only game that I’m actively playing that i missed out on the first round is Pokemon Black. I am almost done with the full end game sequences, but I have to beat the Elite 4 and capture the rest of the legendaries. As for playing two more games I’ve never played before, I fail on this part. I think during this quarter, if I know the game is a higher standard of quality in gameplay and value, I invest more time in it vs. trying to find a game I can gravitate to. To amend this, I’ll utilize Gamepass on Xbox more and scope the marketplace for Switch to see what is on sale and what I can get. A current trend I’ve latched onto is buying collections of older games, with enhancements and bonuses. An example is the Castlevania Dominus collection.

I do need to better for this goal to move forward.

4.Clear Some of My Backlog of Video Games

Out of all the goals, I consider this goal the worst one that is going right now. I have only been playing Pokemon Black consistently after work. I have hundreds of games, but I stick to one because I am the most invested in it right now. What I would like to do is have a rotation of 5-6 games to play weekly and then go from there. The goal isn’t long gameplay sessions. It is to play what I can and then pick it up later. And use this metric to branch out to other games I’ve heard about, or more coop time with friends online. Overall, I need to find 5 solid titles I picked up recently and play them a little bit at a time throughout the week.

5. Establish a Regular Gaming Schedule

This goal might be the strongest one I have listed so far. The consistent playing of Pokemon Black is my only foot in the door to keep a schedule of playing every day after work, and after I eat dinner.

What I’d like to frame this goal to is playing at least Thursday night or Saturday and Sunday morning to get more deep sessions in and push forward to make progress. I am not concerned anymore about achievement hunting or speed to finish a game. My focus is to acclimate these memories of taking my time with the game and then being able to recall them later.

Bonus Goal: buy more accessories for my gaming setup

This has some progress in it. I did pick up some more DS accessories on Goodwill bid auctions and I am slowly upgrading all my gear to protect all my physical copies better. The next steps are to get shelves or find storage boxes that are better at keeping what I’ve accumulated for these past couple of months.

Outro:

And that’s my progress for quarter 2 2026 goals. Every step forward, no matter how small, will push me towards making a difference for these goals. The experience should not be a competition, but a measure to see how much I can consistently stick with these metrics to help boost my gaming experience. The investment in these goals will help me also gauge what I need to do better or what I can focus on for new games I take in or start.

Conclusion

That’s it for our 2026 Quarter 2 goals update! I feel like we all did okay in our progress with room to improve in certain areas. I know I need to focus more on the games I wanted to beat for the year so hopefully I will have a much better update in the quarter 3 updates. Thank you for reading and as always, happy gaming!
