Oh January, how I am so happy to finally see you almost gone. Seriously, as someone who hates the cold, I’ll be so glad when Spring comes around. Anyway, we aren’t here to discuss the weather, we’re here to discuss some video games, like always, am I right? Keep in mind that January’s game pickups are compiled of both what I bought myself and also Christmas presents. Let’s begin.

Systems, Controllers and Accessories

Atari 2600+

Oh yes, this is what prompted me to write that Atari article I just published not too long ago. I had been wanting to play Atari games but didn’t want the hassle of trying to find the right converters and such for the original system. Hence, here we are. So far, it’s been a great system and I love it. I do want to do a review for it at some point, just not quite sure when. You want one too? Well, they’re over on (paid link) Amazon.

Switch 2 Pro Controller

Downs and I were just talking about these in our Switch 2’s Buyer’s Guide and well, I guess it made me want one. I was worried that I wouldn’t care for it or I wouldn’t really use it enough to justify the price. All of those worries went automatically silent the moment when I sit down and started playing. It’s a very lightweight controller, which I love and it’s so easy to use. It simply feels good to hold and to play your games with. I can’t be disappointed with the (paid link) Switch 2 Pro Controller, this is a great purchase!

Atari 2600

Joust

I already owned this for the (paid link) NES but not the Atari. Thankfully, a (paid link) copy only goes for $20 or less, from what I’ve seen. So, hence, here I am. I’ve been playing this off and on. I’ve gotten a few levels in before dying. I can’t recall my high score currently though.

Atari 7800

Crystal Quest

This was one of the main games I wanted when I started looking at the Atari again. Unfortunately, I am not very good with this game at the moment, but in time.

Super Circus Atari

This is a re-release of an old Atari game. I actually haven’t had the chance to try it yet but mostly because I really want to play it in 2 player mode and I don’t have another controller yet. You can still get this off of (paid link) Amazon.

Wii

Mario Super Sluggers

I have find memories of this game when I was a teenager, playing it at my sister’s house. Well, I never owned a copy until now and I’ve been playing it two player. It’s pretty fun but there’s definitely a bit of a learning curve in my opinion. This is one game where I think practice actually helps and isn’t something I can blow off like most tutorials.

Switch

Persona 5 Royal

The definitive edition, more or less, of Persona 5. This is a game that I spent 90 hours on and yet, I didn’t beat it. Yes, if you aren’t aware, this game is quite long and is know for it even. It’s something I hope to jump back into in the near future.

Harvestella

This game has been on my list for a while. I’ve almost bought it a handful of times. When I went to GameStop recently to do a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal, I couldn’t leave it behind. Figured it was the right time. I’m not very far in yet, a few hours at most. It’s pretty fun though, so far. Amazon (paid link) has copies for roughly what I paid for mine.

Monopoly

I haven’t played this yet unfortunately, despite really wanting to give it a try. I’ll hopefully find the time to do so soon.

Oregon Trail

I used to play Oregon Trail a lot as a kid. Most of the time, not making it very far before I lost everyone but it was still pretty fun. I’ve been wanting this for a while and I actually got it for Christmas. I’m yet to play but I will.

Bendy and the Ink Machine

What? I just bought this? Ah man…..I forgot.

No I didn’t, we’re good. I actually got this because I wanted to play in handheld. I even wrote a small guide for the objects in chapter 1, since I always think they’re a pain. I’ve sort of dropped the game again for the time being but I’m just going with the flow currently. I’ll return eventually. Also, there is a re-release for this game (paid link) physically, which I thought was pretty cool.

Crown Trick

I haven’t tried this yet. I mostly bought it just due to it being so cheap, $1.99 at the time. It’s from the same people behind Monster Sanctuary, which I consider to be a pretty good game, so I think I’ll enjoy it.

Caretaker

Unfortunately another game I am yet to play. This was also on sale for cheap so I bought it too. I’ll eventually get to it.

Xmas Survivors

I’ve been having a fun time with this. It’s pretty much exactly what you think it might be. A roguelike auto shooter featuring Santa Clause. Pretty cool, right? Actually, it is a lot of fun. One of the better ones I’ve played in the past 6 months. I’m looking forward to reviewing it sometime later.

Fear Effect Sedna

I don’t have anything to comment about this one. I’ve not had a chance to try it yet. I bought it because it was on sale for cheap.

Switch 2

Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny

Ah yes, I had mentioned several times that I wanted this and I got it for a good deal too. I’m actually almost finished with the game to top it off. I’ll wait to discuss it more later but check out my Games I’m Playing articles to keep up to date. If you don’t have a (paid link) copy yet, consider it!

Yooka Re-Playee

This is a remake of the 2017 game (paid link) Yooka Laylee, which is a platformer game developed by some of the old team behind (paid link) Banjo Kazooie under a new studio. I never played all of that game, only a couple of hours or so. I was excited to see this announced and more so to get a physical. You can buy it on (paid links) Switch 2, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond

It’s worth noting that I have no prior experience with this series. I actually picked it up because GameStop gave me a $20 off coupon for the game and I took it. Still, may be worth getting your own (paid link) copy of.

Persona 3 Reload

I was playing this at first but I’ve unfortunately dropped it for other titles. I’ll eventually get back to it though. I’ve been on a bit of Persona kick lately, so. Anyway, don’t have a copy yet? It’s available on Steam, (paid links) PS4, PS5, XSX & Switch 2.

Gameboy Advance

Super Mario Advance

This is actually Super Mario Bros 2, the one the U.S. got that was Doki Doki Panic over in Japan. I got it for free as the B2G1 free deal at GameStop. I didn’t like this game a whole, whole lot when I was a kid but it’s a memory I want to relive.

Steam

House Flipper

I know, I know. How many times do I plan to buy this game? Hopefully this will be my last. After the frustration of the Switch version, which you can read about here, I thought I would give this a shot since…well, why not? It was part of the Winter sale. Thankfully this version is much better and more playable.

Tomb Raider Definitve Survivor Trilogy

This is, you guessed it, the reboot trio all in one. I paid a small price for this during the Winter Steam Sale so I’m pleased. I am yet to actually start any of them but one day.

Dust An Elysian Tail

I played this a good bit back on the 360 but I’ve never beaten it. I thought now would be a great chance to get it back in my collection, on a sense.

Uninvited Guest

I’ve been eyeing this and got it for areal cheap. I’m yet to actually play it yet but you can check it out on Steam for yourselves.

Choo-Choo Charles

I’ve been wanting this for a while but I also wanted to pay very little for it considering I wasn’t sure how it really was. I’m yet to try it for myself though so I have no opinion yet.

Granny Remake

I saw a little of the original game from a let’s play once. It was under a dollar during the Winter Sale so I figured I would go ahead and get it.

The Space-Eating Croc

This is a RPG Horror title in the same likeness as Mad Father and Ib. I can’t tell you much beyond that since I’m yet to play. Go check it out on Steam for yourselves if you’re curious.

Quantic Dream Collection

I got this for a really good deal during the Steam Winter sale. If you aren’t aware of what it is, this collection gives you Beyond: Two Souls, Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human. All of which are pretty good games. I’ll eventually go through and do a review for each of them.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33

I’ve been contemplating buying this for a while on Steam after all the commotion and splash it made. Unfortunately I haven’t really played much, maybe 30 minutes at most. It’s something I’ll get to down the road.

Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion HD Renovation

Now I think this makes maybe the 3rd time I’ve bought this? I’m not entirely sure about that but I know I’ve never actually beaten it. Well, I’m still not playing it yet but I am happy to have it again.

Overlord

An old Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 game that I didn’t spend a ton of time with. However, it was really cheap and I wanted to give it another shot. We’ll see how it goes at a later date.

Conclusion

So, any of these interest you? I got entirely way too many games this month but it happens. Thankfully, February is slightly better but it also isn’t over yet so we will see what happens. Anyway, make sure to stay tuned for more articles and I’ll catch you all next time. Happy Gaming!
