I recently beat Xmas Survivors and now I get the fun of reviewing it. If you aren’t aware, Xmas Survivors is a roguelike auto-shooter centered around Christmas and Santa. With that said, let’s get into it.
Gameplay
The gameplay is about what you would expect. You choose your weapon of choice, enter a level and try to survive as long as you can. You defeat enemies to get EXP and gold, which upon level up, you get to choose what stat you want to level. The gold is used on the main menu to permanently upgrade your stats and also purchase new guns.
There are 4 stages. Each stage, besides the first one, is unlocked by surviving 15 minutes in the most recently opened area. The stages only last 20 minutes total, as at that time you have killer trees swarm you and destroy you. After you complete all the stages, there really isn’t much for you to do besides upgrade all your stats, if you wish to that is.
Graphics
While theme may not be as good or polished Army of Ruin, the game does have a certain style to it. From all the winter wonderlands to play on to the design of the enemies and even Santa himself. Overall, I think they’re decent but could be a bit better.
Soundtrack
The music typically consists of Christmas music but not the joyful kind. They gave it all a rock spin off which is pretty nice. It certainly fits the theme.
The only annoyance I have is that the sound and the music do not match in volume. You can have the Switch’s volume about 1/4 of the way up and the music is totally fine. As soon as you enter the actual game and the game’s noises take over, they’re way below that and typically consists of me having to turn it 1/2 of the way up just to hear it.
To note, I did check the settings. It wasn’t that. Everything was where it should have been, at max but it didn’t fix the issue. I guess this was an oversight.
Controls
These are simple and easy to manage. All you do is move around, hit A to confirm your choices and let Santa do the rest as far as the enemies are concerned. It’s pretty much the same as any other auto-shooter, like Vampire Survivors.
Replayability
Xmas Survivors has low replayability in my opinion. You could fo back and try to complete all the upgrades but when it comes down to it, what’s really the point if there’s nothing else ro unlock? Unfortunately it lacks what Twilight Survivors has with all the different stages you could go back for.
Scores
Gameplay: 7/10
Graphics: 6/10
Soundtrack: 7/10
Controls: 7/10
Replayability: 3/10
Overall:

Conclusion
Xmas Survivors is a fun roguelike that falls short in terms of replayability but offers an enjoyable ride for the length of the game. It’s cheap, starting off at $3.99 and is worth the cost for the time you’ll get out of it. Check it out yourself over on Nintendo and go have fun. Happy gaming!
