Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny is a mashup of characters and a revival of Nicktoons Unite. After several years of that series being rather silent, it will pretty interesting to see this appear and well, how was it? Let’s get into it.
Story
Timmy Turner does what Timmy does best. Makes a wish that totally disrupts everything and collides many different characters from different universes to be a part of a game that he wanted to play. Only, he isn’t expecting everything that happened because Cosmo has these dice that amplify the wish and make it insanely powerful. Now everyone is on a journey to find the die of power to reverse the wish and make sure everyone gets home safely. However, like any good guys will tell you, the bad guys are always around too and they certainly are. You’ll have to collide with different forces to race for the dice. Many adventures await.
The only aspect of the story that I wasn’t entirely pleased with was the ending. The big boss fight was certainly a little challenging but the reveal of who the Dungeon Master was and why they did all they did was lacking in my opinion. I wasn’t expect a blockbuster story mind you but it left a little something to be desired.
Gameplay
The gameplay primarily consists of doing main quests and side quests while trying to get through a certain level. You’ll run around in the level, defeating enemies with your character’s normal attack and specials while also doing challenges and doing main story quests. Such as finding someone, retrieving an item or the like.
The Tangle will be your home where chatacters you meet will gather amd provide services, such as swapping out characters for you, making potions, upgrading or buying weapons and armor to other useful aspects too. You level up by defeating enemies and gaining EXP. The RPG mechanics are light but noticeable and not that difficult.
The downfall to this is that the game does crash. I only experienced this once during my time playing and it seemed to have been triggered when I tried to play a challenge. I cannot confirm if it was the cause or not since I avoided that specific challenge afterwards.
Graphics
The graphics are about what I would expect from a game mashing up a bunch of cartoon worlds. It’s vibrant, mostly, with cool details of each character’s own land. They aren’t anything to take your breath away, but they certainly do the job. It’s just a shame that some areas, levels, look like copy and paste from the previous.
Soundtrack
I thought the music for this game was alright. Some of it is memorable, like the tune for The Tangle, while others parts of it are not. Overall, not a bad soundtrack for an adventure of (not so) cosmic proportions.
Controls
I played almost all of this entirely with my Joycon turned sideways as I was playing with a second player. The controls are pretty decent, they usually work just fine and you can use 4 different equipped skills by pressing the corresponding assigned buttons. You can dodge, run, attack and pretty much have no interference playing this way either.
Replayability
The game has some replay value depending on who you are. There are quests you can do after you fight the final boss, finishing up those loose ends or you can challenge levels at higher difficulties to test yourself. So, overall I say the replay value is moderate. There isn’t really a huge draw, like post game content, but it’s alright.

Conclusion
Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny is a fun game full of laughs if you’re playing with others. The downfall comes from the bugs, lack of an initial challenge and the unfortunate truth that it feels too short for what it was trying to pull off. I spent about 10 hours on said game and did every mission possible. The problem comes from the price, being a $50 game at launch. However, you can usually catch it on sale now, I still wouldn’t pay more than $20 at most.
If you are interested in getting your own copy though, it is available for the (paid links) PS5, Switch, Switch 2 and XSX. Until next time, happy gaming everyone.
