That time of year again where we all say we’re going to do this, that or another this year. I do this too, and in fact, I made a blog about it last year. Now, I did meet those goals, more or less. This year, I’m going to change my focus, and that’s where we’re going to start. The whole team at Insane Nerdy Culture will be sharing their own gaming goals, so strap in and enjoy the ride.

Andrew’s Goals

Play More Horror Games

I feel as if I really fell behind on playing any horror games this year. Sure, I played the likes of Wire Lips and The Street 10, but that’s really been all I’ve touched. I want to fix that next year and actually play and finish some of these games I’ve bought. Much like Slender: The Arrival, Layers of Fear, Withering Rooms and Pools.

I did complete 2024’s goals of playing RPGs though, though I say that lightly since it was just me finishing (paid link) Digimon World: Next Order, which I made a review and also wrote out some tips for any new players.

Play Digimon World 4

Just a month or so ago, I began the journey that was Digimon World 4, a game that I haven’t played in many years and never beat. I was determined that this would be the time, that I would finally go all in and actually play it. Unfortunately, I got three hours in when I saw the struggles of playing due to my current setup.

So that’s why, for 2025, I plan to get back into this hame and actually make a sizeable dentist in it. There’s a ton of great memories in this game, some spent by myself and some with family members. I want to relive some nostalgia and also just enjoy a great game.

Return to Game Developing

In 2024, I began the journey of teaching myself how to game develop. I was using three different programs and was learning at what I would call a decent pace. Unfortunately, I lost the space I was using to use my laptop, and hence, no more developing has been done. I’ve always wanted to create my own games and I want to see that life goal come within my grasp sometime within the next few years.

So next year, I’m going to make a plan of what I want and claim some room back to make this happen. When I get anything concrete, I plan to cover my owm game here, so stay tuned for future updates. It’s either going to be an RPG or a horror title.

Downs’ Goals

1. Reorganize Collection
2. Beat Unfinished Games
3. Complete a new Game Series

2024 was a year of rediscovery and sorting out priorities. In 2025, I would like to have a year of restructuring and streamlining, getting my priorities right and ultimately being able to start 2026 with a clean slate to build upon. It will take a year to clean things up, but it is better to start now instead of later. Hopefully, I will have a lot of success stories to write about.

Charle’s Goals

A new year brings a fresh opportunity to level up my own experience while playing video games. Picking up the controller and firing up a game are easy, but there’s a lot more going on than that. Here are my goals to get better as a gamer in 2025. These are in no particular order.

1. The backlog

From 2019 to the current year, I have bought games (mainly during the COVID lockdown) for my Switch and some for my Xbox and PC. The library is strong for my Switch so that’s where I’m going to start first. I’m going to pick at least three games, play them each once a week in between tasks after work and do what I can on weekends. I’ll make a list to see what unique things I can discover in each title and I’ll try to keep a good variety of games to play. Tactical Strategy games have been the winner for me on my Switch currently.

2. Record a list of all my Switch/Xbox/PC games

I will build a digital list of all the games I have in my collection. I’ll also update my wishlist for future games that I want later. This will help me organize what genres I have, which story driven ones I can lean into, and which ones are good party or multiplayer games to play later with friends or online. The specific game series I’ll look for are those of a genre or those I’ve collected in a sequel series, like the Gunvolt Azure Striker series.

3. Completion

For all the games I have and have started, my completion rate is low. My passive goal is to pick the same 3 games that I referenced earlier in goal one, and work towards completing the main storyline at least once, then going back and finding all the extras. I normally don’t like to speed through games, but I think I will dominantly immerse myself in the full game but also keep going towards the end.

4. Recommendations

When I’m playing through my games this year, I’ll pick up to 5 in my library that haven’t been mentioned often to recommend to my social media groups and feeds. This will be a way to thank the community and my sources for recommending the games I picked up in the past.

A majority of my Switch library was built from recommendations from fellow Switch fans and I also gave my subtle input on my favorites to them.

5. The classics

As a kid, there were a handful of games I was never able to beat as a kid. The two main reasons for this were either:

A. I couldn’t afford the full versions of the game ($50.00 was a lot of money back in the 90s!)

Or

B. I had not developed my problem solving and lateral thinking abilities yet, compared to the knowledge and resources I have now.

The culprits I include on this list are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the nightmare water level), Commander Keen collection (Keen 1-6 somehow), Pokemon Silver (bought this game this past summer), the remake of (paid link) Advance Wars (playing this now), Castlevania Advance Collection (one of the highest rated Castlevania games ever), Command And Conquer: Tiberum Wars (I beat Red Alert 3 maybe 2 years ago on one faction.) and The Messenger (still working on beating this one.)

These titles, and there are probably a lot more, are going to be fun bonus objectives scattered throughout the year to aim for to make sure I go back and conquer what gave me so many problems as a kid back then or just to bear the game.

6. Bonus Goal

Build network of online gaming friends again.

My early days of video games in the 90’s plunged me into the wilderness of the Internet. If I was lucky, I’d even make some friends through games or chat rooms. I’ve discussed this subject with several real life friends but the magic of random online chat game lobbies seems to be lost. I pop into a lobby of COD or Halo but no one talks or I guess I didn’t have the right lobby to talk with.

My natural tendencies as an introvert don’t help my case, but I will do my best to try something different. This bonus goal of mine is to talk to more people in game chats and build a consistent group of friends to play games with. An upgrade would be that adding specific friends in online MMO games I am trying to play regularly.

I think I would gravitate towards finding a mix of random players from my social media groups, as well as starting a Discord that is a safe, but also laid back place to trade ideas and hop into games together.

I am leaning towards setting up a Discord server, then branching off of that with multiple multiplayer games and trying to keep the community diverse, with a mix of guys and girl gamers to enjoy the hobby and find like minded people. The end goal would be trying to make friends in real life and go from there.

I want to be able to hop into my list of games and have a good number of friends to jump on with. The number of releases and multiplayer games coming out this year and beyond is a lot, so it would be fun to try out new ones.

Those are my gaming goals for 2025. They are ambitious, but I think the fun part is just seeing how many of them are things I do anyway and how that goes back into this list I set up for this year.

Final Words

That’s a wrap on our gaming goals for 2025. What does everyone else’s look like? Did this make you want to make your own? I hope to see us all finish what we are setting out to achieve.
