In the Pokemon Presents this morning, we saw the latest Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends Z-A. After the success of (paid link) Pokemon Legends Arceus, I’m actually pretty hyped for this series to continue. However, there’s some surprising details.

Kalos Region

When the idea of a new Legends game came up some time ago, I had speculated that perhaps it would be the Johto region or maybe Unova. No way did I see us getting anything Kalos related. On the flip side, I’m really excited for it. Given that I started a Pokemon X play through last year, which I need to get back to.

Although the announcement trailer didn’t show any gameplay, I’m betting it will resemble the first Legends title, but I could be wrong. It looks like it takes place prior to Lumiose City coming into existence. On top of that, the end of the trailer shows the Mega Evolution symbol, confirming its return.

Look Back at Arceus

Arceus really turned the tables when it came to what we knew about Pokemon. It took us to the past, took away the gyms and normal society hierarchy we knew of, and replaced it when people were actually afraid of Pokemon. They had just started to allow them into their daily lives, and even allowed us to fear them. When you went out to the field, you could easily be targeted and attacked. This forced you to either run away or fight the wild Pokemon.

Conclusion

Although many people were hoping for Pokemon Gold & Silver or Black & White remakes, I’m personally happy with what we got. Even with a 2025 release window, this gives me a good amount of time to perhaps clean up my existing backlog.

I’m personally looking forward to Pokemon Legends Z-A and I hope a lot of other people are as well.
