A whole year has passed since we were blessed with this different and unique Pokemon tale. A game set in the far past, before Shinnoh was even a region, with a time in history where people were actually still afraid of Pokemon and being a trainer was not a normalcy.
I, like so many others, was thoroughly pleased with this new setting. No gyms or Elite Four or any of the usual mechanics you would find from this series. No, now your goal was to complete the Pokedex, the very first ever Pokedex, and meet with Arceus. The player is taken from the present to the past by Arceus himself, and thrusted into a grand adventure where you’ll be catching mons after mons after mons, and exploring the Hisui region.
Looking Back
I had so much hype going into this game and it delivered tenfold. Very open for exploration, a decent amount of mons to find and to my surprise, I actually liked a majority of them. Also keeping in mind that some of these mons had new forms, which actually were pretty cool. One specifically that comes to mind is Arcanine, who 100% became one of my 6 mons.
So what really made this game so brilliant though? Was it the change in formula? The setting? The world being more open? The characters? Honestly, I think it’s a bit of everything. I know some people didn’t like the tasks that came along with the Pokedex, but in my opinion, they gave us something to work towards even after completing the story.
I know I nearly got all the research information done, which would have given me the shiny charm. Alas, I still have about 50 left.
After 100+ hours between two different save files, I still find myself wanting to play again. To make different teams, and to just experience it all over.
More Pokemon Legends Title to Come?
This is a topic I’ve seen thrown about all over the internet, and the fan base seems pretty positive when the idea pops up. A popular rumor is Legends: Celebi, set in Johto’s past. I would be more than happy to see it happen too, but GameFreak have not confirmed any future plans.
Moving Forward
Who’s to say if we’ll ever see another Pokemon Legends title. I would love to see it, and pour another 100 hours into one, but only time will tell. All I can say for the moment, is that this game will be revisited, time and time again.
