Before we even start, let me just say how much that Steam sale got me. A majority of my pickups are from that, so you have been warned. Let’s get into my July 23 game pickups.
Don’t forget to check out June’s (23) game pickups too.
Steam

Nexomon
Even though I have beaten the 2nd game, I have not spent too much time with this one yet. I did once, for about an hour on my phone, but quickly realized I would rather have it elsewhere. If there’s any interest in this one, then perhaps check out this post I made for the series!
Coromon
I’ve spent about an hour on this one. It’s very much an old school Pokemon feel, in a different way than (paid link) Nexomon is. For example, when training your Coromon, you may be running to the “center” to heal them often. Granted, Nexomon was like this too, but I had to do plenty of running in this game already. Also, only the monster’s participating in battle get the EXP.
Cassette Beasts
I’ve only spent about 30 minutes on this one, but it’s definitely different. Instead of capturing monsters in some form of a device, you actually record them on a tape, and then you, the person, becomes what you recorded. I’ve only played enough to record one monster, and to take out an Archangel.

Alisa
This one I bought because my buddy BioPhoenix recommended it to me some time ago. It plays a lot like an old school PS1 horror game. Tank controls are available, and the blotchy graphics as well. I’ve played enough to wake up in a mansion of sorts, and got a gun. You spend gears that enemies drop to save, and also purchase different things from ammo to outfits.
Monster Sanctuary
This has been the crowning game for the month. I’ve spent a little over 32 hours on it, and still going. It’s a 2D side scrolling game, with platforming elements, and monster collecting and battles.
There’s 111 monsters to collect in this game, and the battles just keep on getting harder. Each monster has their own unique skill tree, that unlocks different abilities such as attacks, buffs, debuffs, healing and skills of that sort. As long as stat boosters and passive abilities as well.
Although I know I’m over halfway through, this will be a game that keeps me coming back for a long time.
Everhood
Unfortunately I have not spent any time with this game at all. I’ve meant to, but the other games got in the way.
Switch

Sentimental Death Loop
As I am currently doing a let’s play for this game, I won’t dive too deep here. All I’m going to say is it’s keeping my attention. You can check out part 1 here, and look forward to part 3 soon.
PS5

Greyhill Incident
This has been an interesting experience so far. I’m about an hour in, and just had the aliens descend upon the land. There’s definitely a nice 90’s vibe going on, as there should be. Sometimes it’s a little difficult to find where you need to go, but that’s a small issue for me.
I’ve seen that the (paid link) game has gotten some mixed reviews, so we’ll see how I feel at the end, but so far, I’m enjoying it.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
Enter childhood memories and some nostalgia. This was my first Harvest Moon game on the GameCube, the original (paid link) A Wonderful Life where we played as the guy. I’m early into summer on year 1, other games got me sidetracked. I’ll be sure to return to this one soon.
PSP

Ys I & II Chronicles
Following my newfound love for the Ys series, I finally decided to go with the PSP version of Ys I & II. What struck me first was how different the combat system was. The game uses a bump mechanic, where you literally just run into the enemy to do damage. Now, you have to do this from the sides or you’ll take damage too going head on.
I’ve gotten about halfway through the first game, and got stuck looking for the silver sword. I know I’ll pick this back up soon, as my adventures with Adol are far from over.
In the meantime, why not go check out my review for (paid link) Ys IX?
Final Thoughts
July gave me plenty of great games that I’ll be spending a lot of time with. Monster Sanctuary definitely takes the cake this month. I’ve been quite addicted to it, and I’ll hopefully be writing a review for it very soon here.
