Welcome one and all to my August 23 game pickups. if you haven’t already, please do go check out July’s and maybe June’s as well. With that said, I feel this was a pretty average month for me, nothing over the top this time. That isn’t bad, just mentioning it. Anyway, let’s hop on in.

PS4

Subnautica

Although I have been looking at this game for some time now, months, I finally decided to purchase a copy after someone mentioned how creepy it could be. Being that I love horror games (I do! Look at my Fatal Frame IV review!) I thought it could be fun.

I’m only about two hours in currently, finally getting the scanner built after being pretty confused on finding the titanium. Thankfully, I can start to explore more and I feel I have a better grip starting to form.

I quite enjoy exploring the sea so far, and the view. It’s a very pretty game, in my opinion, and a deadly one if you don’t monitor your health, food, water, and of course, oxygen. I did choose to play on survival mode, which I think would be the preferred difficulty for most players.

Mercenaries Blaze

I’ve never played a Mercenaries game before, and I didn’t even know it was a series until after I (paid link) purchased this one. Good to know now, especially since this is the 5th entry, but luckily they have their own standalone stories.

Anyway, this is a tactical RPG about immigration into a different country following a war. The soldiers you play are hired swords, whose story begins with them rounding up some so-called immigrants.

I’m not far, only have finished chapter 2, which isn’t long given that each story battle is a chapter. Similar to Fire Emblem Awakening battles, for instance, to give a comparison.

Prey

I haven’t given this game a fair chance since its release, despite owning it three times now. This time, I plan to actually play…after the update installs, since apparently it just crashes without it.

Switch

Pokemon Scarlet DLC

I know the most recent Pokemon titles have torn fans since the games came with a series of glitches, but despite that, I found enjoyment in them. After 120+ hours and a completed Pokedex, I’m ready for new content.

Vampire Survivors

I feel as if I’ve talked about this game quite a bit lately…oh yes, I have. Following my very recent review of the game, I’m continuing to play happily. I’m telling you guys, go buy this and give it a try if you haven’t already!!

Steam

Moonlighter

I have been having quite the interesting time with this game since I bought it. The game was on sale for only $3 and what a deal that was. I’m nearly 20 hours in, and still a good bit of work left.

You play as Will, a shop keeper by day and a dungeon adventurer by night. You’ll be slaying monsters and searching for treasure, then going back to your shop to sell the items you found.

There’s a good bit of money management going on, although I’m sure some would argue the game is too simplistic. Overall, you’re getting money to either further the expansion of items within your shop, the actual shop design itself, money to invite new shops or something to town or you’re getting new equipment or upgrades to said equipment. The game is exactly in depth, but it’s a fun experience none the less.

Final Words

This month definitely saw some great games added to my library, and I’ll be sure to probably shelf half of these as I purchase new games next month.

(That’s a joke…sort of)

I hope maybe someone here was able to find a new game to play (Vampire Survivors people!) and I also hope everyone enjoyed reading August 23 game pickups.
