Back again with another wonderful Nintendo game. This time, I get to write a Kirby Star Allies review and discuss a Kirby adventure. It’s been a while since I actually played a (paid link) Kirby game so I found this pretty fun. Let’s get started.

Story

After witness shadowy dark hearts fall and corrupt his friends (and enemies), Kirby sets out to investigate who could be behind it all.

Gameplay

This is a 2D side scrolling Kirby adventure that has an emphasis on friendship. You can play this game with up to 3 other people or you can play it by yourself as well with three computer players. This is done by throwing a friend heart at an enemy and making them your ally. Quite frankly, I thought it made for an interesting game mechanic that I’ll miss in other titles.

Beyond this, the levels are more or less straight forward. Get from point A to point B with a side area available for extra goodies, rare puzzle collectibles or a Switch to open up an extra stage. The game is not very long either and while I was playing with someone else, we weren’t even aware that we were at the end of the game until we reached rhe end of a boss fight and realized we had to fight the final boss immediately after.

Graphics

I wasn’t all too sure what to expect from a 2D Kirby game on the Switch but it definitely delivered some pretty sights. I would say the graphics overall were solid for the type of game it is and visuals we know the series to have.

Soundtrack

I feel like a lot of Kirby titles have really fun soundtracks and this game is no different. Every song matched the theme of the level amd area and I could not have been happier with it.

Controls

These is done well and I played the entire going using one JoyCon sideways. Easy to use and very responsive.

Replayability

This is certainly a Kirby game that you can come back to for several reasons. Not only is there the story mode but you also have plenty of other modes to keep you busy as well.

Scores

Story: 7/10

Gameplay: 9/10

Graphics: 8/10

Spundtrack: 10/10

Controls: 10/10

Replayability: 9/10

Overall:

Conclusion

If you’re in the market for a fun 2D Kirby adventure, Kirby Star Allies still delivers a fun experience that can be played alone or with friends.

I found this game to be decent, but I didn’t love it that much. The final boss was fun though.

That’s quite fair. It wouldn’t be for everyone.
