We’ve been on a roll with these Kirby games. Here I am again with a review for Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch. This is a remake of the (paid link) Wii title by the same title. So, how is it? Let’s discuss!
Story
As Kirby and his friends are enjoying their day, a disturbance happens in the sky and a flying ship comes through. You see it losing parts as it continues flying down before crashing. They go to investigate and find someone is on the ship. They agree to help fix it up by finding the gears it lost and parts. Thus starts the adventure.
I’ll say that the game offers a twist that you may or may not see coming. I won’t spoil it but if it’s your first time playing, it should give you a little shock. I already had played the original years ago so I knew in advance.
Gameplay
Kirby’s on another 2D side scrolling adventure in enhanced visuals from the original title. You’ll go level to level, working your way through while also collecting gears in each stage, which are used to open up doors on Magolor’s ship. The gameplay feels pretty classic, even a nice throwback stage near the end that I don’t want to spoil.
Gameplay feels solid and fun with puzzles to solve. I never quite got tired or felt like it was a never ending loop. It also lasted just long enough to not overstay its welcome.
Graphics
The enhanced visuals from the original are a nice touch and are similar to that of Kirby Star Allies. They’re fun to see and experience while giving a similar Kirby style.
Soundtrack
As usual, we are delivered some new but also familiar sounds that the series is known for. I’ll link to the OST, so anyone that’s interested can go listen too.
Controls
I played the entire game with a 2nd player so I used the (paid link) Joycon sideways. The controls were right and fun, much similar to that of (paid link) Kirby Star Allies.
Replayability
With all the different modes this game has and mini games, I say this game has a pretty high replay value. Even after you complete the main story, you have the mini games on the ship to play or you can do Extra Mode. So there’s plenty of content to keep you coming back.

Conclusion
This is a great remake of the original, offering more content, upgraded graphics and an easier way to play co-op, in my opinion. You can’t go wrong with this game if you’re a Kirby fan or even if you’re green to the series. Make sure to get you a (paid link) copy and have fun with it. Also, make sure to check out our reviews for Kirby Star Allies and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Both are also great entries.
Until next time, happy gaming.
