Hello everyone, back again with more games to discuss. There’s a few more than last months, so let’s get into April’s game pickups.

PS4

Virginia

I’m late to the party for this game, but I thought I’d give it a try. After The Suicide of Rachel’s Foster, I’ve been wanting another great story game, and this one seems to be pretty highly regarded.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes

I know I already bought this quite some time ago on Steam, but I honestly wanted to get trophy support and maybe even play through the game since I quit last time.

SAO: Re: Hollow Fragment

This is the first SAO game, and it takes place in an alternate timeline. I’ve owned it once many years ago on a different Playstation account and thought I would grab it while on sale. I’ve been in a huge SAO mood lately, if this blog wasn’t a sign.

SAO: Fatal Bullet

This one is based on the GGO Arc of SAO, and I have very little experience with it. All I remember at the moment is that your character is truly unique, and you aren’t just playing as Kirito this time. Yes, there are guns.

Anthology of Fear

To be fair, I haven’t actually touched this one yet. It looks like a horror game I could get behind though.

Survive! Mr. Cube

Ah another roguelike, who could have guessed? I’ve looked at this one a lot, but kept passing it up for some reason. I’ve played for maybe 20 minutes or so, and have died three times. The last time I did though, I actually had hopped through about 4 portals, so I’m guessing the hang of it.

PS5

SAO: Last Recollection

I haven’t touched this one yet, so I never beat the game before it, Alicization Lycoris.

Layers of Fear

I’ve already played the first Layers of Fear, but never got the 2nd game, so the new remaxe bundle sounded awesome to me. Unfortunately I haven’t quite found the time to play it yet.

After Us

Ever since this game was released last year, I thought it was going to be something pretty awesome. Then I never heard anyone talk about it again. There’s probably tons of articles and such, but just by browsing in groups, it never popped up.

Anyway, I decided I would give it a shot, and I’ve gotten to play for about 30 minutes or so. It’s a pretty beautiful game, and I enjoy the scenery. It’s dystopian, so not everything is going to be all green fields and such, but it’s definitely something to admire.

I could give a story idea here, but I believe I’ll just link to the store page instead.

One Night Stand

I’ve never quite known if I’ve wanted this or not, but I caught it for a dollar and figured I might like it. With that said, it’s going to set in my backlog for a bit.

Withering Rooms

A friend of mine brought my attention to Withering Rooms, and I have to say, the recommendation was solid. It’s been a fun ride, and I’m loving every minute of it. The 2.5D gameplay mixed with the atmosphere is something I am really getting into.

I’m currently on chapter 2, and have died a good amount of times. It’s a fairly challenging game, even on Normal. The story so far is intriguing to, with a 1890s setting and a dream that goes on forever, night after night of gruesome nightmare creatures who you either kill or get killed by. I don’t want to spoil any story events, but the magic aspect is pretty cool too.

Switch

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond

My best friend and I were discussing Pokemon and wanting to replay one of the games. In the end, generation 4 won, and here we are. I haven’t actually started playing yet, as I’m composing a team and going to breed for it through my Pokemon Pearl copy.

Reaper Survivors

This was another Vampire Survivors clone that I thought would be fun. To my surprise, this has to be my least favorite title in the genre. I’m not sure why exactly, I think the lack of upgrades kills the vibe for me perhaps. Yeah you can purchase different weapons, but I haven’t seen a way to actually upgrade them, and it seems it isn’t possible.

Monster Panic

I’ve talked about this one a bit, and even did a review, so perhaps check that out. All I really have to say is this is definitely a decent auto shooter, but there might be others worth the money more so than this one.

SAO: Hollow Realization

I already own this on the PS4, but my best friend wanted to play together, and it was on sale, so I figured why not?

Steam

System Shock 1 & 2

I’ve always wanted to play these games, and with my new laptop, I thought it was a good time to try. With that said, of course I haven’t even tried them yet.

Is Simon There?

Another one I haven’t tried yet either. Bought it on sale, and I’ve always heard positives.

Recettear

I actually didn’t know this worked with the Steam Deck until a friend tried it. Though I might still play on my laptop, but this is helpful information regardless. This is one of those shop games where you explore dungeons to get the inventory. It’s also predates games such as Cusineer and Moonlighter.

Quest

Asgard’s Wrath II

I got this for free with the purchase of my Quest 3, but haven’t even gotten to download it yet.

Blade & Sorcery

I’ve played with this for a little bit, but not much. It just seemed fun.

The Light Brigade

Now I could have a lot to say about Light Brigade. Did I already own it? Yes, for the PSVR 2, and I wrote a blog talking about why it’s awesome and then a different blog going over the different classes. It’s just such a fun rogue-like that I couldn’t help playing it again. You start with a single class and unlock more by defeating enemies, getting souls, and using those to level. Then if you die, you’re taken back to the base, and you get ready to get out again.

Yes, you have to start from the very beginning stage, in typical rogue-like fashion. It’s a great experience, and worth it too.

Powerwash Simulator

I wasn’t too sure about power washing in VR, but the little bit I did play was actually pretty fun. I’m not far enough to really give a proper opinion, so I’ll leave it as it seems promising.

Final Words

Well, I definitely bought more games than I initially planned to, but sometimes it happens. The sales are what really got me. How could I resist? I can already say that May is going to be an interesting month too.

Until next time, game on.
