March 24 Game Pickups

It’s that time again…no, not Christmas, but close enough? I have a new round of games, a smaller bunch this time, trying to stick to one of my goals for 2024. Let’s get into my March 24 game pickups.

PS4

Nights of Azure

Despite beating the 2nd game, I never have completed the first. I haven’t even owned a copy for at least two years or something around those lines. Given that one of my goals for the year was to beat more RPGs, I thought I may make this one of them.

Yu-Gi-Oh Legacy of the Duelist

I had a $10 credit to my PSN and decided I’d get this with it. I’ve owned it once before, years ago, on the Switch and really liked it, so I thought it would be great to hop back into a childhood favorite. Though I haven’t actually bought a card in years, the game has always stuck with me, and experiencing all the historic battles I watched as a kid, well, I’m game.

PS5

I didn’t originally pre-order this one, but after all the posts online, I broke. It’s a fun action RPG with a decent cast of likable characters so far. Though, I’m only on chapter 5, but it’s been a fun filled ride so far. Now, there isn’t any armor choices when it comes to equipment, but I think there’s plenty of weapon upgrades and items of that manner that it isn’t a problem. Overall, I completely see why others were enjoying it too.

Unicorn Overlord

I was originally going to skip out on this one, but all the posts on social media made me crave. I’m glad they did, too, because I’ve really been enjoying it. The battle system is different from other tactical RPGs, and it might take some getting used to. All the player does it lay out the troops, move them like chess pieces to the opposing units and choose how to fight. There’s a deep level of strategy as some units would do better or worse against others, and skills have to be taken into consideration.

I’m not very far. My work schedule has kept me very busy and too tired to play. Overall though, I think it’s more than worth a (paid link) look at.

Wii

Marble Mania

You control a marble trying to get through multiple stages. Actually, to be more accurate, you control the stage, and move the marble by titling the Wii remote, which turns the stage table. It’s a neat concept, and can be a challenging one as well, since there’s collectibles to keep in mind and a time goal as well.

Switch

Vampire Survivors: Emergency Meeting

I actually didn’t know this had been released in December, but better late than never. I’ve never actually been a big fan of Among Us, but I think it is really neat that the developers are making ties between different series. I haven’t played too much of this yet, just a few rounds, of which I never actually reached 30 minutes. I’m definitely game to keep going though, as even after all the time with this game, it’s still a blast. My review can be found here and also my co-op review as well.

Cat Survivors

This is yet another title much like Vampire Survivors, where you’ll play as a cat trying to survive a horde of monsters using different magic attacks and such. It’s pretty simplistic, but there’s still fun to be had. I can’t see myself playing it for countless hours, but it’s intriguing enough that I want to see the end point. I’ve defeated three bosses so far, and have lasted about 23 minutes.

The biggest difference so far is that the starting weapon can be changed. It isn’t that you change the character, you change the staff the cat carries, which has a certain spell attached to it. Money takes some time to build up as well, but there are upgrades and items to help that.

Steam

Scare: Fatal Picture

This game reminded me of Fatal Frame, so I just had to give it a shot. I’ve played for five minutes, and I haven’t quite got hooked yet. Granted, that isn’t long, but this will be one I explore later.

Enola

Saw this on sale and thought it might be a decent title. It deals with some heavy subjects, and I’ve seen very little of the game so far to speak on it. Might be worth looking at yourselves.

Born Into Fear

I thought this just looked interesting, and it was a cheap horror game. I haven’t gotten far though, because I was killed pretty quickly. My stealth skills are not very high level, and with as many enemies crawling through the area, I was quickly destroyed.

Class of ’09 & ’09: The Re-Up

These have to be my favorite pickups this month, and perhaps for the whole year so far. Though I’ve only spent roughly two hours with the first one, the level of darkness and laughs that come from it are insane. It touches on heavy subjects, and it has no problem laying them out flat for the player to see. I’ve accidentally gotten Nicole, the main character, killed about four times now.

Want to go back to high school? Play this and expect a lot of funny yet disturbing moments. What happens to Nicole is entirely up to the choices made at certain moments, and you can even choose to date the teachers. I did this once, just to see the ending and it wasn’t good. I cannot recommend this one enough for any visual novel players or anyone even slightly interested in trying a VN for the first time.

Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient

I’ve always wanted to play this one, as I am a fan of the original Corpse Party, but I never had the means to do so until recently. I just bought it though, so I can’t make any comments since I haven’t played it. The only information I will share is that it is a separate story from the first set of Corpse Party games from my understanding.

From the Darkness

So I had a different reason for getting this game. I’ve seen a few videos talking about really scary horror games, and a frame from this game has been used as the thumbnail. It made me look at the game in the first place, and then after seeing what it was about, I had to give it a try. I did just buy it though, so I haven’t played any yet.

Final Words

14 games in a month isn’t too bad, and it is a big improvement from past months, like December, for example. I would like to keep it under 15 every month if possible, 10 being more the ideal limit. We’ll see how that works, but overall, it’s been a good month. I hope you all enjoyed and also have found a new game for your collection. Thanks for reading about my March 24 game pickups.
