For a combination of my birthday and Christmas, our fellow author Amber gifted me some books to read! One of those series was The Nauturals and after reading the synopsis, I jumped in shortly after. Well, what do I think of the first book? Let’s discuss.

Synopsis

“Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But, it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides-especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms close. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.”

Thoughts

Not too far in, I immediately had the thought that this seemed akin to (paid link) the Truly Devious books. Those are great in their own way but this isn’t about them. Anyway, I had that thought and it stuck with me for a majority of the read through. This isn’t bad though, as I can see similarities but also differences that make the book stand out as its own. It had my attention and being someone who really enjoys true crime and have read other books and saw TV shows about profilers, I got hooked on Cassie’s lessons.

By the end, which I won’t spoil, I know this series will be a whirlwind of emotions. I can’t wait to see more, which brings us to a close.

Score

The Naturals delivers an experience that is captivating, interesting and worth your time. It is only brought down by being somewhat predictable and taking a turn with the story that made it feel like most of the big plot with our MC was fake. I don’t want to spoil this so I’ll stop there. If you want to read it yourself, click your preferred format above and hop to it. I’ll catch you in the next review.
