Are you in the mood for some spooky games today? Well I have a list for you. These games are sure to give you nightmares and force you to sleep with the lights on. Let’s get started with these horror games.
Fatal Frame II

Systems: PS2 & Xbox
Ah yes, my favorite entry in the series. The game took everything from the first game and improved on it in every way. Tighter controls, a bigger story, more lore and of course, the creep factor. There is nothing quite like exploring All God’s Village, not knowing what ghosts await you around the corner. It isn’t just that aspect alone that makes this game so great though. The gameplay, sounds and atmosphere really drive it home.
I wrote a review for this game a while ago, so check that out if interested. There’s a remake in the works if you missed that as part of the Nintendo Direct we had in September. Want your own copy of the original? Here’s a (paid link) PS2 and a (paid link) Xbox copy to look at.
If you have never played one of these games, treat yourself now. You’ll get hours worth of torment, nightmares and a life-long crippling fear of white kimonos.
The Suicide of Rachel Foster

Systems: PS4, PS5, Switch, Steam
I cannot stress how great of a game this is. From your footsteps echoing through the halls, a quiet hotel that you think you have to yourself. A story that unfolds so beautifully but will linger with you forever. I beat and reviewed this game two years ago and yet, it still weighs heavily on my mind.
I’m yet to find a game that’s like it. It’s not a short game either, you for sure will get at least 4 or 5 hours if not a little more depending on your exploration of the beauty of a hotel itself.
Resident Evil 7

Systems: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Switch, Steam
Alright, so we all know Resident Evil has some scary moments. We also know (paid link) Resident Evil 7 really brought back the horror to the series. However, have you tried Resident Evil in VR? Let me tell you…
It’s absolutely terrifying. I played 80% of this game on a (paid link) Playstation VR headset and loved every minute. It offers a good bit of immersion and realism. That isn’t to say the game isn’t great on flat-screen, but it’s a different beast. Especially near the beginning at the point you look down to find Mia crawling up the stairs after you. Now that was nightmare fuel!
Dead Space

Systems: PS3, Xbox 360, Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X
What kind of list would this be if I didn’t talk about one of my favorite games of all time? Dead Space really sets the bar. Regardless of how many times you’ve played it, there’s always a Necromorph or two you forgot about that give you a good jump. That’s not all this game is though, now is it?
The story and atmosphere is what makes this game shine. Was what we saw real or is Isaac losing his mind? What’s with the voices we hear as we walk the halls of the USG Ishimura?
While the whole series is great, the original game is what did it best in my opinion. However, (paid link) Dead Space 2 did a great job and comes pretty close to topping the original. I did a review for it this year for the Steam Deck and also a review for (paid link) Dead Space 3 as well. Still, you can’t go wrong with the (paid link) original or the (paid link) remake. It’s sure to leave a lasting impression on you, one way or another.
Eternal Darkness

System: GameCube
This a game I have recommended before and I will recommend it again! Actually, I included it in a Halloween list I did a couple of yeaes ago. This game is truly freaky but in all of the best ways.
As the first game to introduce a sanity meter, it scared fans with uncertainty and fights that will leave you scarred. Oh did your game just delete itself as you were playing? Well, say goodbye to that. Character just explode? Eh, they’ll be fine, probably. Can you determine what’s real and what’s not? Play this (paid link) game on the (paid link) GameCube and find out.
Fear

Systems: Steam, PS3 & Xbox 360
The first (paid link) Fear is iconic for good reason. That scene with Alma on the ladder is know by many as being the first big scare. While I do believe (paid link) Fear 2 rose the scare factor, you can’t go wrong with Fear and the frights it delivers. You just better be ready for the nightmares that follow.
Conclusion
Have you already played some of these? Maybe it’s time to revisit an old favorite or two tonight while you wait for that ghoul to pay you a visit. Come on by our Facebook page and let us know what games you enjoy during today. Until next time, happy gaming.
