Welcome all to another post about Animal Crossing. With the Switch 2 on the horizon, I wanted to discuss something that (paid link) New Horizons did that I wasn’t too pleased with and that was taking away the Re-Tail shop.
What is Re-Tail?

Re-Tail was a shop that popped up in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the 3DS title. It was an alternative to Nook’s Cranny and allowed you to purchase items that other villagers were trying to sell. It also allowed you to sell your own items to rhem as well instead of settling for whatever Timmy & Tommy offered you.
Why We Need It
Someone has to put Tom Nook and his greedy paws in place. Okay that’s (mostly) a joke but there’s some truth to it as well. There are no options now. You either have it at the Nook store or you just don’t. I’m not a fan of this and I want options. The same can be said for many other stores in the Animal Crossing universe that didn’t make it back into New Horizons. At least, not in the way we expected them.
Harvey’s Island
Now there’s quite a few spots on his island to open up and make use of. I won’t get into all the specifics, so please reference this guide if you’re curious. Though some shops are here permanently after they’ve been opened up, Re-Tail is not one of the. Cyrus and Reese are there doing furniture services but it is far from the same. I really believe we should have been capable of opening new shops on our main island and not have to travel like we do.
The (paid link) Switch was more than capable of handling it. I also understand that they were going for a deserted island look and feel but it feels so empty even after having max villagers and whatever other buildings you do manage to get.
The Next Game
I’ve already discussed this a decent amount in a blog I wrote a few months ago, but I’ll still touch on it here. I really feel like the next Animal Crossing game should have more to it. Perhaps they’ll take a different route and give us a city to expand or explore. I’m curious to see what we get. Could Animal Crossing be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2?
Final Words
I hope to see Re-Tail find its way back into the next Animal Crossing game. What I do know is that if you’re looking for a game close to AC, then you need to check out Hello Kitty Island Adventure. I speak more about that in the blog I linked, so check that out and keep in mind that a (paid link) physical version will be released in March.
