Hello Kitty Island Adventure just released on PC and the Nintendo Switch a few days ago. Originally exclusive to Apple Arcade, this was a big deal to a lot of people. When I first saw it, I immediately told a friend who was into Hello Kitty and she was pretty excited. Well, after looking at it for myself, I decided I would give it a try alongside her. Well, what happened? I love it and now we’ll talk about why.
So Many Quests!
So each character has their own quests which actually push the story forward. You arrive on an island, invited by My Melody who was first invited to open a shop. You make a hasty escape from the aircraft with balloons, and thus begins your adventure. Now you have to find your friends who are scattered about the island and give them gifts to up your friendship level. When doing so, you unlock different quests to do which serve a few different purposes.
These quests can either make progress on the story or they can unlock different aspects of the game for you. An early one that comes to mind is helping Kuropi will unlock flippers which allows you to swim. Others could help you fish, dive, etc. The game is filled with quests and none of them have been difficult up to this point.
Cabins!
This is where I think one of the biggest comparisons to Animal Crossing comes in at. You get your very own cabin, which you can decorate as you go. At first, all players receive the same cabin but you can eventually move to a different one, which there are tons to choose from in each area. Oh and yes, this game’s map is pretty big with different regions. My favorite being Spooky Swamp which Kuromi took a liking to too because it’s very, well, spooky.

You also can decorate different cabins to entice different visitors to the island. You have to make them to their liking first though, to get their attention. Currently, I’ve only done this with one character.
Gifts!
I’ve already mentioned that you give characters gifts, but it’s a bit wider than just that. The gifts can be simple but each character has their own likes. Thank goodness too, this game will show you what you have that you can give them. Although (paid link) Animal Crossing also allows for gift giving, I never quite know what characters like without either experimenting or looking it up. I am glad that Hello Kitty Island Adventure makes that easier.
No Money System!
So of there’s one big aspect I enjoy. There is not a money system in place but rather a trade system. If you have the materials needed to create whatever you want in the store, then that’s what you use to purchase it. These materials can be found all around the island and also given as rewards for doing quests. I find this to be more stress free as you don’t have to go collect and sell a bunch of items to afford what you want.
Conclusion
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is very similar to Animal Crossing so if that’s your genre, I highly recommend this title. I can see how it may become potentially repetitive in the future after many, many hours of gameplay but then again, what game doesn’t? It is also worth mentioning that there is a (paid link) physical version of this game releasing March 25th for anyone who would want that instead. If you choose to pick it up, I hope you have a great time and look forward to more blogs soon.
