Back again with another roguelike. This time, we will be doing a Twilight Survivors review. Twilight Survivors was released in April of 2024. It is on the Nintendo Switch and Steam. Without any further mumbling, let’s get started.

Gameplay

You start off with a few characters to play as, whom each have their own special weapon, and then you choose a level to conquer. Each level has a timer and at the end of that timer, a boss will appear and you have to defeat it. Along the way, you’ll be defeating enemies and gathering EXP. By leveling up, you’re offered different weapons and skills to help your run. This is a roguelike much like Army of Ruin, Vampire Survivors and Monster Panic.

Each character has their own skill tree and own lore chapters to complete, further opening their skill tree and thus making your runs easier. They also all have a unique skill, which may be better suited for each level depending on what you’re up against.

Graphics

I think these are decent. The art style they went for during the actual gameplay works for what it is, making all the characters small and having us have a top down view of the situation. The actual character models are nice and the weapons look pretty good as well.

Soundtrack

I think the music for this game is pretty great. Though the constant sound of the weapons moving can be a bit annoying. This is normal for any roguelike though, so as usual, I played with the sound down and listened to something else while I played. The actual music per each area was cool and fitting though.

Controls

These are pretty simple. Nothing too crazy. The back right bumper button will use the dash or other special ability the character had while you move with the left analog stick and make selections with A. You could also aim using the right analog stick, if desired.

Replayability

This game offers a lot of replayability and variety. You can play for hours with different characters experimenting with different weapons and skills combinations. You can also work on each character’s skill tree and finish all of their lore. I’m 25 hours in and there’s still a lot I could go back to do.

Scores:

Gameplay: 8/10

Graphics: 7/10

Soundtrack: 7/10

Controls: 7/10

Replayability: 10/10

Overall:

Conclusion

Twilight Survivors is one roguelike you will want to sink that time into. With how many characters there are to choose from, the smooth gameplay and all the different weapons and skills to play around with, this is a title that will keep your interest for a good while.

That concludes this Twilight Survivors review. Remember to check out the game if you haven’t already. If you’re looking for other roguelikes to play, here’s my recommendations.
