Reasons for Double Dipping on Video Games

There’s a topic that comes to mind quite often when I’m browsing any game store, “Should I buy this game again?” It isn’t that I necessarily need to, but it’s usually for a game that I really had fun with the first time and now I would like to experience all over again on a different system. Double dipping on video games is something I think a lot of people can relate to, and I want to just talk about why I personally do it.

A New Start

You know that game you put 50+ hours into and now you want to play again? Well, there’s only one save file, so what do you do? Some people would create a new account if possible, which works for physical games on the Switch for example. However, if it’s a digital title and linked to your account, that isn’t always an option. If you buy it again on a different system, you suddenly can enjoy it all over again.

Trophies or Achievments

I’ll admit it, I’ve totally bought a game twice just for this very reason. One of those being The Suicide of Rachel Foster, which I first bought on Switch and then again on the PS4. There’s just something about seeing those little pop-ups telling you that you accomplished something that makes me happy.

Upgraded Visuals or Mechanics

I’m going to throw a bit of a cheat in here, because we’re now going to also discuss remakes of games and counting those as double dipping video games as well. For instance, I’ve owned the original Dead Space for many years, but of course I went and bought the (paid link) remake too.

Final Thoughts

While some might see buying the same game twice as a waste of money, I’m sure there are plenty of others who understand double dipping on video games just happens sometimes. Everyone’s reasons are different, and there’s probably a lot of reasons that I didn’t list. Either way, as long as we’re all having fun, isn’t that the purpose anyway?

Happy gaming everyone.
