Welcome back all, to another really large month. I’ve gone overboard, so this should be very interesting. Let’s not delay and go ahead and discuss my November (23) game pickups.

PS3

Tokyo Jungle

I used to own this years ago via the Best of Playstation Network Vol 1, but sold it. I figured it was time to grab the game while the store is open and now I can play a game that has occupied my headspace since the day I first started it.

Tokyo is deserted. There are no more humans. The animals have taken over and now you must fight for territory, find a mate to reproduce with and aim to rule the city. There’s plenty of animals to unlock and use, from dogs to cats to deer to more. A single run could expand into years of game time, and if you were to die and have children, then you immediately get to play as them instead of dying off.

PS4

Reflection of Mine

This one caught my attention due to dealing with a mental illness, dissociative identity disorder. The character you play as isn’t too sure which one of her is the real her, and during a 10 hour journey, there will be plenty of puzzles to solve and story to unfold. I haven’t played any yet though, it got swallowed up by other games you will see shortly.

Smoke and Sacrafice

I remember when this game released, and all the trailers I saw. It didn’t catch my attention back then, not enough to drop $20 on it. However, I found it on sale for a dollar, and thought now would be my time. It also has not been touched yet, but soon.

Knight of Pen & Paper Bundle

I’ve always had an interest in these games and when I found the bundle for less than $4, I thought now was my time. Unfortunately, this one has also been ignored due to other games.

Suicide of Rachel Foster

Okay, yes, I did go buy this game for a second time. The store had it on sale for $2 and I couldn’t resist. I also have been playing it too, near the end of my first run. I nearly obtained all the trophies, but realized I accidentally missed one on the day I just passed, so I’ll be doing another play for it. If interested, definitely check out my review that I did last month for this amazing game.

Generation Zero

A friend of mine really wanted me to get this game to play with him, and it has not disappointed. To give a game to compare it to, think DayZ or something where you’re salvaging for supplies and materials. This game doesn’t offer zombies though, this is all about machines.

Blue Reflection

I used to own this and the sequel at one point. I sold both and regretted it since. Well, I’ve got this one back and I’m on either chapter 2 or 3, I can’t quite remember. I just beat the first big boss, which was fun.

The story is one big selling point for me. I love JRPGs, if that hasn’t been obvious, and I enjoy learning about Hina’s story and her past. The story has me engaged.

The gameplay is also pretty decent. It’s a turn based game dealing with special attacks, using ether which is basically just MP. It’s definitely a “magical girl” kind of game, but that’s definitely not a bad point.

Erica

I thought this looked interesting. It’s an interactive thriller, and while those seem to be a little more common today than I first thought, I’ve never tried one before. Unfortunately the app for this game isn’t compatible with my phone, but I can still fully play with my controller.

With that said, I haven’t spent more than a couple minutes with it.

Flower

I used to really enjoy this game when I owned it on the PS3 and was super happy to find it on PS4. Somehow I never knew it made its way to the system. Now I can fully enjoy how relaxing the game is, and the scenery again.

I’m being absolutely serious too, this game is quite relaxing. You’re playing as a flower petal, blowing through the winding and using gyro controls to steer the petal where you have to go. Where is that exactly? Well, you’re blooming other flowers and picking up more petals at you go! The game really is something to experience, and it’s only $6.99 so you can’t go wrong there.

PS5

Spider-Man 2

This game certainly deserves all the praise it has received so far. I haven’t actually beaten the game yet, I’m about 1/4 of the way through, but the story is fantastic. If you’re familiar with the 2018 Spider-Man game or 2020’s Miles Morales game, the controls are basically the same.

Now’s the time to buy if you haven’t already…go check (paid link) Amazon.

Crymachina

This is from the same development team behind Crystar, another great action RPG. This specific game is about a human who dies, and wakes up many, many years later as a robot. Humanity is extinct, and only a human can take control over everything.

Coming from playing Crystar, the combat is much smoother, and fluent. It’s fast paced, fun and can be a challenge. Worth checking (paid link) out.

Frightence

I’ve already discussed this game in full via my review, so I would recommend just checking that out for all the details.

Bloodwash

You play as a 19 year old college girl, who’s pregnant, going to a 24 hour laundry mat at the edge of town. During this time, there is a killer on the loose who is specifically targeting pregnant women, and you’re basically out when you really shouldn’t be.

I had started playing this game on the website’s YouTube channel, but I had to cancel it. The game shown certain 18+ criteria that I would have to censor and then the 18+ comments kept getting worse. I definitely will be continuing to play, and do a proper review when the time comes.

Little Goody Two Shoes

I’ve only played about 20 minutes of this one, so I can’t say too much, but it’s worth checking out for yourselves.

PSVR 2

Organ Quarter

I always did think this game looked interesting from the get go. I’ve played roughly 30 minutes I believe, and it seems to be very retro horror inspired. I’m digging it, even if I’m not far.

Death Game VR

I honestly just bought this because it was $6…you have to survive 10 mini games to win the top money prize. If you fail, you die. I’ve played one of the mini games and that was it.

Afterlife VR

I had quite a few people mention his this was just a very mediocre title, being a PSVR game originally and then getting an upgrade. I never played the original, so I actually was very curious about it. I’m roughly 45 minutes in, maybe 30. It’s actually something I very much like at the moment. I can see where perhaps the visuals aren’t the best for what the new headset is capable of, but it doesn’t seem bad either.

With creepy hallways, a nice atmosphere and a story that intrigues me, I know I’ll be playing this one soon.

Steam

Cavern of Dreams

This game is reminiscent of the PS1 & N64 days. It even represents a colorful little dragon who reminds me of Spyro. A difference between the two is how collecting the eggs actually helps unlock new abilities. For instance, after collecting so many eggs, the sorcerous will give you the power of wings. This literally makes wings grow on the back of our baby dragon’s back.

Cuisineer

I’ve already talked about this game a bit. It’s a game close in design to Moonlighter. Only you run a restaurant and not a shop. It’s very easy to just pick up and play a couple in game days at a time or play a whole week.

Sega Saturn

I’ve wanted this system for years, but I never could quite justify buying it when the games were so expensive. Well, that problem has been solved by a friend of mine. He told me about the (paid link) Pseudo Kai, which is a cartridge that goes in the back of the Saturn.

Once inserted, it allows the player to not only make their system region free, but it also allows for the player to use burnt discs. Burnt discs are the same as repro carts, and they can be either bought or made by oneself.

I went the easier route for me, which was finding someone on Etsy who makes the discs to order and ships them. They’re pretty cheap, in comparison to the real discs. I’ll leave a link for that Etsy shop here.

Andretti Racing

This came with the system, so I wasn’t exactly seeking it out. However, I’ve played a couple races, and it isn’t a bad game. With that said, with so many other racing games out there, odds are I won’t return to this one very often.

Nights Into Dreams

I’ve always had an interest in this title, and while I know it’s available on other platforms, I really wanted to experience it on the original system. I’ve played a few minutes to test the game, and I can only imagine what an impact it had when it first released.

Magic Knight Rayearth

This is the top game I wanted for the system, and thanks to the Pseudo Kai, I was able to get it very cheap. I’m about an hour in or so, and the 90s anime look really makes this game special to me. Sometimes I miss how games used to look.

As for the game itself, our three main MCs are brought into a fantasy world where they must become magic knights to save the land.

Switch

Super Mario Bros Wonder

Well, who isn’t talking about this (paid link) game at this point? I’ve already beaten the main story, and going back through for the extra levels. I should also mention I’ve been playing the game with family.

Sunwards

Despite the graphics perhaps not being the best, I thought this looked like a fun action RPG. Unfortunately I haven’t played but 5 minutes and quit. It wasn’t that it bored me, the game seems to have good ideas, but other games overshadowed it.

Lost in Random

I caught this one sale, and thought it looked fun. This one hasn’t even been touched yet.

Connection Haunted & ReHaunted

A bit of a fun story behind this one. I actually was not aware there were two games in this series, and I bought ReHaunted first, then later found out about the first game. In truth, I’ve spent about 10 minutes with the 2nd game, and no time at all with the first yet.

Skull Rogue

I always love a good roguelike, as they make up a nice little corner of my library at this point. This one is simple enough. You start off on room 1, defeat all the other skeletons, and proceed. The catch is you actually pick up the weapons and armor the other enemies drop. As you defeat them, they also drop EXP as well.

You gain levels as you’re playing the game, but the skill points cannot be distributed until you are back on the main menu. This works out just well in my opinion, as each run becomes a bit easier, as they are supposed to do.

Children of Morta

Another roguelike that has flown under my radar for years now. I wasn’t too sure about it, so I downloaded the demo and went along my way. That went so well, that by the time I reached the first actual dungeon, I completely forgot I was in the demo.

This game centers around a family who is tasked with protecting a sacred tree. Every character we play as is a member of this family, and each one adds different skills to everyone else. This means you’ll benefit much more if you spend your time with everyone, versus just a select few.

It’s no short of a challenge to. It took several attempts to beat the first boss, and I was even playing with my nephew when we did it. Oh yes, this game is co-op, and it’s very fun to play with someone else.

Don’t Be Afraid

Alright, I haven’t actually touched this one yet. I grabbed it because it was on sale for less than a dollar, and I thought it might be something fun to play and review at a later date.

7 Years from Now

It’s funny how some games stick in our minds. I saw this trailer two years ago, but never played the game. All I remember is that I really liked how it looked, and the story really caught my attention. Well, this led to me finally finding it again, and I’ve had a good time since. I’m currently on chapter 7.

A high schooler goes to visit with his dad in his home town. Only, he has no memories of when he was a child, before the age of 14.

WeakWood Throne

This looked like a fun little RPG to play for the price. I got it for literally $.28 which I used Nintendo coins for. I haven’t tried it yet.

Haunted Hell House

Another one that I thought looked interesting. It’s very retro, so the graphics aren’t anything to marvel over. I haven’t touched it yet either, unfortunately.

Final Words

Well, that covers it for my November (23) game pickups. I hope you all enjoyed and perhaps you found a game for yourself amongst all of these. I’ll see you next time.
