Welcome one and all to my October (23) game pickups. There’s so much to cover, and despite my attempt to limit my purchases, it did not go as planned. The good news is, I have a nice variety to talk about, so I hope you enjoy it. Let’s get into it.
Switch

Silent Hope
At first glance, this game might look like a mobile game. I’ve heard that from different people at this point, and I understand what they’re saying. However, don’t judge from appearances. This game is pretty fun and packs a punch.
You have 7 heroes to choose from, whom you can change who you’re using mid dungeon, and each with their own unique weapon and skills. I’m currently working my way through the 3rd floor, and have trained 5 out of the 7 now.
Pikmin 1+2
I have never succeeded at completing any Pikmin entry, but I’m sure glad to now have these on the Switch. Nintendo really did a great move by having all the main games accessible on one system. My copy of Pikmin 2 on the GC was starting to break, literally. Oh and the best news is that both games are on one cart!
Pokken Tournament
I got this to play with my friend, and I’ve had a good time revisiting it. I used to own it on the Wii U, and on the Switch at one point as well, but sold them each. Well, now I’m back and playing as one of my favorites, Weavile.

Evoland Legendary Edition
This has two games in it, and I’ve only so far been playing the first one.
The game starts with Gameboy graphics, and you have to unlock literally everything. You can move one direction when you start, and then open chests that allow you to move other directions, get a pause menu, an attack, etc. Basically, the game makes you unlock the settings and mechanics. I love that, because I also never quite know what I’m going to find. Such as the game starting off as an action RPG and then turning into turn based.
I’ve spent an hour so far with it, and feel I’m already 1/4 of the way through. I could be wrong, it’s just a feeling.
Apparition
No Evidence
Sagebrush
So I admit, I haven’t spent very much time with any of the games above. Perhaps 5 minutes each, which is why this portion is for all three of them. I got them cheap and figured I would play them when the time is right.

Black Witchcraft
I thought this looked like an interesting 2D side-scrolling RPG, and so far, I’ve been right. I’m only 30 minutes in, though, so I can’t say much beyond that.
The Suicide of Rachel Foster
I’ve talked about this very recently in my review, so I won’t spend much time on it here. However, I do wish to say that it’s more than worth the time to play, and I am still mulling over the story in my head. One day, I will replay it and look for what I perhaps didn’t see the first trip.
Halftime Heroes
This is another Vampire Survivors clone I found that is both similar in mechanics but throws some differences in. For instance, when you level up, you actually get spell and stat points to use, which actually build as you level. So, essentially, that means you don’t have to level up at all if you choose not to.
Livestream: Escape from Hotel Izanami
I’m yet to spend more than a minute with this one, but given that the 2nd game just recently came out, and this was on sale, I figured I would grab it. The game is a 2D side scrolling horror title, with I believe has some puzzles too. Basically, a group of friends go to a very haunted place to do a live stream in hopes of becoming famous, and it goes very wrong from the start.

Dementium: The Ward
I was very excited to see this game make its way to the Switch. It even got its own special blog about it. Since the release, I’ve played up to chapter 4, and enjoy seeing it on my TV. The controls have been reworked for the Joycons, and the updated visuals are nice as well.
Soviet Project
I admit I haven’t spent much time with this one, simply because so many games came out at the same time, so it has unfortunately just been waiting for my attention. The story behind it is that while you were sleeping, the whole town has been evacuated, and now you need to figure out why.
Dungeons and Goblins
This is a pretty simple RPG that doesn’t take much investment. You can easily play for five minutes and clear a dungeon. It isn’t fancy, but it gets the job done. You have a hub for choosing your equipment and skills, as well as upgrading your gear or swapping it out.
Deep Space
This game has not received the best of reviews, and I even contemplated if it was worth the $2, but I thought I’d give it a try. So far, the game is very average, but difficult. I can’t even get past the first round of enemies because there’s too many of them, and my gun doesn’t kill fast enough.
So with that said, I can’t quite recommend this game yet, and we’ll all have to see how I feel when I review it.
Steam

Another Crusade
Quick disclosure, I was given a free key by the development team.
So far, I believe this is an interesting, and difficult, RPG. It has what many RPGs have, but also lacks other aspects that I miss. Such as, there is no way to actually upgrade your current equipment. There is also no skill tree, and while to some that might be good news, it wasn’t to me.
This has made the game quite a challenge, which is welcomed, but so much of a challenge that I have been stuck at the same boss for over a month and I have no idea how to beat it. There’s talk of an easy mode coming at some point, and I believe I might try my hand again after that’s released.
Plants VS Zombies
I’m sure this one is pretty recognizable at this point. I got this because I realized I actually did not have an easily accessible copy, and thought it would be fun to replay after so many years.
The Darkest Tales
Enter fairy tales of old. You take on the role of someone’s teddy bear, on an adventure to save his owner after she is taken from her bed. Along the way, you’ll find other enchanted and recognizable beings. One such, for me, was Little Red Riding Hood. I’m not too far, and this is an RPG. The first weapon you get are actually scissors, which I found pretty cool.
Kingdom Rush
So, this is one that I haven’t even spent a second on. I got it in a bundle, and it’s just been collecting dust in my library. Hopefully I’ll decide to boot it up soon.
PS5

Daymare 1994: Sandcastle
I’ve been wanting to try Daymare for some time now, but I never got around to the first game. I figured this was my chance to give them a try since this is a prequel. I’ve played about 20 minutes, and it isn’t bad. It definitely has room for improvement, but from all I have heard, the development team is newer and still learning, so good on them.
Whispike Survivors
Another Vampire Survivors clone with a different twist to it. You take on the role of a plant, which you’ll grow on your farm. The farming aspect is very simple, with no real work involved. You plant a seed that has certain attributes and attacks, then when it’s an adult, you can use it to fight in the next round you play.
So far, I’ve only actually seen one location, and made about 4 minutes into a single round. Altogether, I’ve probably played an hour and a half. It’s got quite the challenge to it, and that’s after the experience I’ve gained from the other games in the genre.
PSVR 2

Thumper
After several YouTube videos about this game, I still had absolutely no idea what it was even like. Finally, I caught it on sale for $5 and it has been worth it so far. A lot of people say it is like an acid trip, and I don’t know how I feel about that. Firstly, did they do acid just to find out? Not me, I’m good.
Being real now, it’s definitely a bit trippy, but it’s pretty fun too! You’re sliding along to some killer music, and having to press a button at the right moment to either get boosts, attack a boss or also slide around corner unharmed. I would say watch a video, but I’m unsure if it would help any.
Propagation Paradise Hotel
This game has gotten a lot of buzz around release in the PSVR communities I’m in. I caved and started playing. I’m only 20 minutes in, but so far, it’s enjoyable. I haven’t gotten into anything major yet, since I just found the first save point, but it looks promising.
Meta Quest

Dungeons of Eternity
A friend of mine actually got me to buy this, after talking about it and also sending me a referral code which got me so much money off. I’ve taken on a dungeon a few times, and have to say I really enjoy the throwing mechanic this game has. My main weapon is already the axe, because I can throw at my enemies’ heads. I’m yet to actually get to create any new weapons or armor, but that’s there too.
Final Words
That’s all for my October (23) game pickups. Maybe you all found a new game to add to your list or ever growing backlogs. I sure know that I’m going to have fun with each of these games, and if you guys would like to share your own pickups, I recommend finding us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, and sending a message.
Until next time, behave yourselves.
