Alan Wake 2 has no physical, so we’ve all been told. The reasoning for this, according to the team, is to cut the cost from $70 to $60.
$10 Savings?
I’m sorry, but I don’t even like to buy digital games. I’ll only do so if that’s the only available option, but even then, it’s very far and few that I’ll buy, especially anything over $40. In recent memory, the only digital game I spent that much on was Demeo for the PSVR 2.
I’m sure this is a divided topic by many, but I would prefer to pay the extra $$$ for a physical at this point. Especially when you consider some key points…

High Speed Internet Isn’t Common Yet
This is probably debatable to some degree, depending on your definition of “high speed” but some places aren’t offered any Internet, let alone anything quality. Personally, I get about 1-3 mbps, which is not great. I can get roughly 3 GB in a 6-7 hours time frame. This is at night, when no one else is using it.
Satellite internet is making advances in gaming, and I’m even on a list for Starlink as I type this, but who really knows when that will be readily available to everyone and what the true speed will be when everyone is using.
Not Even a Limited Release?
There has been no mention of Limited Run Games doing a print either. Perhaps it is too early to complain about that, but it does suck to be forced into waiting for a chance.
Will This Effect Sales?
In some ways, I expect it will, yes. I know I won’t be buying, and if there was a physical, I absolutely would have. There are other gamers, collectors, who won’t buy digitally either. Only time with tell for sure though.
Regardless, if you are interested in the first Alan Wake game, I do recommend checking it out since there are physicals for the newest consoles.
