If you’ve updated your PS5, you may be aware that plugging the PSVR 2 headset in prompts an update. Both to the headset itself and the controllers. So what exactly did it do? This is what I’ve noticed so far.

Better Eye Tracking

Eye tracking has been hit or miss since launch. Some people have reported the headset saying it was having issues with it, while other smaller problems came from the games themselves. Let me give you an example.

I was having a heck of a time aiming on Light Brigade. It seems I always was just a little off. Most of my shots missed, and while it happens sometimes, this seemed too frequent. Especially with handguns, they were a nightmare.

I played for a bit after the update, and my shots were definitely more on point. Now I used the Assault class, and the assault rifle for a lot of this run, but I used the handgun a couple times and my bullets were connecting beautifully.

I believe we’ll see a good few improvements across multiple games now.

Controller Update Fixes

So while I was lucky and haven’t had any issues out of mine, I’ve seen plenty of reports that the controllers wouldn’t connect. Either one or both were having issues. Some were having to hit the reset button on the devices themselves to make them connect, every single time they went to use them.

I’ve already seen a couple of people say that the update fixed this. That they didn’t have to do it afterward, and I think that’s awesome. I can imagine the annoyance behind having to reset them like that.

Less Blur

This has also been a big happening since the headset’s launch. There was a sweet spot that had to be found before the image became clear, and even after that, text didn’t not look good. It was actually quite difficult to read.

I noticed that it’s better now, I could actually read the menu in Light Brigade. Granted, that game doesn’t have a ton of reading to begin with, but someone else reported that Resident Evil 8 also looks way clearer, especially with text.

More to Come?

I’m sure this will be one of many PSVR 2 updates we see in the near future. It is reassuring to know that Sony is paying attention and listening. I’m quite happy with what little I have seen of this update so far, and I look forward to seeing what else we get.
