Have you been feeling like games just aren’t the same lately? Maybe your favorite title that you play all the time has lost its shine? Well the good news is that you aren’t losing interest, not exactly. What might be happening is you have gaming burnout. What is it and how can you combat it? Let’s discuss.

Play Something Totally Different
This might sound obvious but it really isn’t sometimes. If you’re so used to playing a certain game or a genre of them, you may not see the answer. Let’s say you play RPGs. You love them. They make up most of your library. However, lately they feel more like a chore than an enjoyment. So what’s the solution?
Change it up. Go pickup a shooter or something cozy like Stardew Valley. Changing the genre can make a difference and break you from that viscous cycle. It sounds simple to realize but I promise you, it isn’t. An example of this for myself lately has been the amount of (paid link) Hades II and, ironically, Stardew Valley I’ve played over the past few weeks. I finally changed it up and grabbed a couple Pokemon titles and it helped a lot.
Use Gaming Time for TV or Reading
Setting aside gaming altogether, you can also try watching a movie, TV series or reading. I know I have been enjoying (paid link) The Naturals series, which has been a nice break from gaming and helps center myself. I’ve also been watching shows such as High Potential & Best Medicine. Both of which deliver laughs in their own ways.
Give this a try if it interests you. I know we all look forward to that downtime with out games but sometimes, a change of pace and scenery really helps. You could also try catching up on some anime while you’re at it.
Take a Walk, a Trip or for Dinner
This may sound out of place, but I’ve learned that sometimes you really have to take a step back from everything. Do something you typically don’t do. Such as going for a walk in the park, taking a trip into town for some self care or going to dinner. These tips don’t only help with gaming burnout but burnout in general.
If All Else Fails, Give it Time
Look, I won’t like to anyone and say gaming burnout doesn’t suck and you don’t want it to go away immediately. I believe most gamers would agree it’s a horrible feeling. However, sometimes all you can do is give it time. Do everything I’ve mentioned above and let days pass. Let time ease the burnout slowly. I don’t like this option but it’s also sort of a given. Since you’ll be giving your time to other forms of media or activities.
Conclusion
Hopefully these tips and suggestions will help you combat gaming burnout. I know they have helped me during my gaming adventures. Make sure to stay tuned for more articles and as always, happy gaming!
