If you haven’t heard the news, we have a possibility of getting Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch. However, it won’t be in the way you’re thinking. What do I mean? Let’s discuss.

History

Pokemon (paid link) FireRed and (paid link) LeafGreen released in 2004 in NA. Each title is a remake of the Gen 1 and just like all previous titles, they each had exclusive Pokemon. So if you want to catch them all, you needed to own both versions or trade with a friend.

How is This Supposedly Happening?

These details aren’t as clear. Reports have come through either as a part of the NSO Gameboy Advance app but I’ve seem more reports saying that they will be standalone releases on the eshop. I personally would like them more as re-releases on the shop for me to buy but that’s just my preference. No indication of a possible price point.

What Should Happen

This section is more about my thoughts and wants, not hard facts or rumors. So take everything I say as a grain of salt and it has no way been discussed anywhere other than below.

If they were to do this the right way, similar to how the 3DS releases went, you should be able to transfer your Pokemon to Home and then to the other games. Either the same generation, so you could complete the Pokedex or to future generations as well. Online functions should be present, so you could play and battle with your friends or any other players. Now, again, these are juat my ideas and what I feel should happen if these rumors turn out to be true.

Conclusion

That’s all for this. We’ll ultimately have to wait until Pokemon Day, February 27th, to find out all the details and see what is in store. In the meantime, make sure to stick around for future articles and as always, happy gaming!
