If you’ve been following the latest Games I’m Playing articles, then you know I finished this and wanted to go through with my Before the Dawn review. Anyone not familiar, this game focuses around you, the survivor of your choice, trying to either survive for X amount of time or trying to complete a series of objectives. Keep reading to find out more.

Gameplay

The gameplay is a bit more complex than a normal roguelike auto shooter but not by much. You can manually aim and shoot, which I actually did for this one. Your gun has so many rounds before you have to reload. You have four different missions you can do and at 3 different difficulties each. Each step up in difficulty grants you more reward money but also more challenge.

There’s different characters to choose from, each with their own special attributes of sorts and then you choose the weapon of choice and an ability before you choose your stage. There’s also gifts you can buy, which is essentially just permanent upgrades to your damage, health, etc. If the game offered different stages, it would be a better game but having the same playing field gets monotonous.

Graphics

These are okay. They’re pretty basic. The character models look bland but the actual monsters look decent. The stage is always the same. Building models and vehicles are okay. Not the best but they aren’t necessarily difficult to look at it. Overall, it’s a little under mediocre.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack isn’t too bad but it just merely exists to me. It’s better than having no music but it isn’t anything particularly special. It’s easily forgettable at best.

Controls

These are okay for what they are. You move around with the left analog stick, aim with the right and shoot with the back right trigger, ZR. However, you do have the option to auto shoot and auto aim, if that’s preferred.  I didn’t find anything necessarily bad with these.

Replayability

I would say the replay value is pretty minimal. Personally, I didn’t even upgrade everything before I quit, because I didn’t feel the need to. There also isn’t a reason to go back once you complete everything.

Scores

Gameplay: 6/10

Graphics: 4/10

Soundtrack: 3/10

Controls: 5/10

Replayability: 2/10

Overall:

Conclusion

While this game may not be the best you can pick up, I would say it’s at least worth a couple of dollars on sale if you want somwthing in the category and you like a little challenge. If you want to check the game out, you can do so here. Also, I wrote an article sometime ago about other roguelike games to feed the addiction. Check that out if you want games that are more similar to Vampire Survivors.

Until next time, happy gaming.
