In the good spirit of Halloween coming up, I decided now would be the time to start playing dome smaller indie titles that are either horror or horror themed. Well, for my first title, I figured I would start with Gone Home since I recently bought it on sale. With nothing else to say, let’s get into this Gone Home review.
Story
The year is 1995 and Katie arrives home to a note on the door from Sam, her sister, telling her to not tell anyone where she went. Why is this and where did she go exactly? This is what we have to find out. The story begins to open up as you search and find the clues laid about. In the spirit of not really wanting to spoil the story, I’ll stop here.
Gameplay
This is pretty simplistic as it is a walking simulator. You’ll walk around, investigate the house and try to advance the story. There really isn’t anything else to it besides that. You will need to solve a few small puzzles like lock combinations.
Graphics
These are alright. I wouldn’t say they would win any prizes but they do the environment well enough for the story being told. They’re almost cozy in my opinion.
Soundtrack
The sounds for this rain really set the mood. It’s a rainy night, you’re in your big house all alone and you only really get music when you find something that progresses the story. Otherwise, the game lets the sounds of the outside and your feet carry it. I think this creates a slightly creepy atmosphere, as you are mever sure what to expect.
Controls
These are simple. Walk around the house with the analog stick and interact with objects with A. There isn’t any difficulty with these.
Replayability
Unfortunately, while this game tells an intriguing story, there isn’t much reason to replay it afterwards. It’s more of a one and done type of experience. However, I would say it’s a nice replay every few years after you’ve perhaps forgotten most of what’s happened.

Story: 9/10

Conclusion
Should this be on your list of games to play? Absolutely! Though I would buy it on sale, which it is currently for the cheap price of $2.99 (USD) so consider grabbing it soon off of the Nintendo store. If you enjoyed this game, go check out The Suicide of Rachel Foster as well, which I also did a review for.
As always, happy gaming.
