Hello all, it’s been a good amount of time since I last discussed the (paid link) Dead Space series. I recently decided I would do myself a favor and play through them all again and then write lovely reviews as I go. So, this is that. Welcome to our Dead Space 2 review.
Story
3 years after the events of Dead Space, Isaac is awoken by someone trying to warn him that he’s in danger. What follows is a series of events. Isaac discovers he’s been drugged and doesn’t remember anything he’s been doing for the past few years, but he has an illness brought on by the Marker from Aegis 7.
After some story events I won’t spoil, he realizes he needs to destroy the Marker that he helped build on Titan Station, a station on a moon orbiting Saturn. With the help of an ally, Isaac tries to put an end to the nightmare he helped unknowingly unleash.
Gameplay
We see some great improvements from the first Dead Space title, such as smoother movement, more guns to use and a variety of suits. The Sprawl is a bigger play area than the Ishimura and the game likes to show that off with more refined gameplay. Isaac also now speaks and has a face, which was a welcomed change from our silent protagonist.
Graphics
This is another way Dead Space 2 took a leap from the first game, the graphics. They appear much richer and there’s more to the station than the same few colors. Let’s be honest here, the first Dead Space is a fantastic entry. However, the Ishimura did have limited colors due to it being a ship. The Sprawl allows for a different look to the game, and really shows off the leaps that were taken.
Soundtrack
Dead Space 2 keeps to the theme and delivers creepy sounds to match the mood of the journey. The original game’s version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star comes back every now and again to haunt us. If you don’t remember it, then go give it a listen.
Controls
The game really takes what Dead Space built and drives it home all the way around. The controls are tighter and more fluent. It’s never been easier to control Isaac or his weapons.
Replayability
Dead Space 2 is a game you can play time and time again. I’ve played this game numerous times since it released and had a blast going through it again, especially on a system that made the game portable.

Conclusion
Dead Space 2 takes everything Dead Space threw at us and improves on it in most ways. It’s worth playing through time and time again and now that I have, it’s time for me to begin my journey through Dead Space 3, so be on lookout for a review for that in the somewhat near future.
