After many hours of playing Mario Party Jamboree, it’s finally time to discuss the good, the bad and the ugly. Let’s dive into why this game may be the best (or the worst) in the series.
Gameplay
Lets talk about the most important factor of any (paid link) Mario Party game, the actual gameplay. This is divided across different types of games, which made this Mario Party title even more fun. Let’s break this down by sections.
You have the standard Mario Party game where you choose a board, your players, how many turns you wish to play and then the fun begins. This game features 7 boards, 3 of which you must unlock. This is bigger than the previous 2 Switch games, and each board actually is a breath of fresh air from the one before it.
I say this because each board has several different small mini games or other small actions to make it unique. For example, one has you driving in race cars. Another is a mall with multiple floors and stamps to collect which can be turned in for coins. I find these type of aspects interesting and fun because it just brings a different feel to each board.
Then you obviously have the core gameplay with collecting stars and playing mini games. Most of these games appeared new to me, with a few being brought in from past titles, but I actually have enjoyed a good majority of them. If you want a closer look at my favorites though, I did write a blog for them.
Next we have the other islands with different games to play. Let’s talk about the Rhythm Kitchen first, which is where you play a set of mini games that involve cooking. The better you do at these games, the better the dishes come out and the better score you receive from the judges. These are done out of five stars, and there’s four different play modes to do it in. The mini games can range from skewering food that’s thrown at you to batting ingredients with your spoon into an ice cream sundae cup. It’s actually pretty fun and they don’t take very long either. All of this while you play to the beat of the music too.
That’s only one of the other islands, there’s others such as Toad’s Item Factory, Paratroopa’s Flight School, Koopathlon and the Bowser Kaboom Squad. All of these great games just add to the fun that Mario Party Jamboree offers.
Graphics
Well the age old joke comes in to play. Who plays Nintendo for the graphics? Well, the answer should be no one because they don’t really make or break a game, in my opinion, but to each their own. For this game though, I think they’re pretty nice for the system they’re on. Nothing special, but the game is at least somewhat visually pleasing. The stages really have some nice views to them.
Soundtrack
I think this game has a great soundtrack. Most of the Mario Party titles do, but this still remains the best from the last few Mario Party games we’ve received.
Controls
Okay I absolutely love how this game’s mini games require different controls. Like you might be using a standing vertical stance and moving with the analog stick or you’ll suddenly need to turn it horizontal and slam the Joy Can down to hammer a nail in. Then you have games like Tiny Triathlon that requires you to petal the controller, run and move it back and forth to swim. It’s all around a great game with the variety. The controls are spot on.
Replayability
Well how could this game not be replayable? There’s so much to do and experience by yourself or with friends. I’ve been playing almost daily since its release and I’m still not tired of it.
Scores
Gameplay: 9/10
Graphics 7/10
Soundtrack: 8/10
Controls: 9/10
Replayability: 10/10
Overall:

Conclusion
Mario Party Jamboree is a great entry into the long running series and a game that I think we’ll all find ourselves returning to in the future even after others have been released. If you’re looking for a game to play with your family or friends, then please give this a try.
