If you haven’t played Vampire Survivors, you’ve been living under a rock and I challenge you to try this wonderful game. If you have already played it, well here’s your excuse to play it again, which is what I’ll be doing. The game will officially hit the Playstation store on August 29th. Now, if you came here for the date, I can understand if you leave right now.
If you haven’t played this game though, I recommend you stay and hear why you need to give this a try.
Insanely Addictive
I don’t care how many hours I’ve played this game, it’s down right addictive every single time. After over 100 hours, I’m more than ready to jump back in. With tons of characters to unlock, stages and many different weapon combinations to try, you can easily sink a ton of hours in.
I absolutely love the mass chaos this game offers, and how difficult it is. Although it gets easier as you play more, it isn’t so simple when starting out. Just trying to stay alive long enough to unlock something can be a challenge, but so rewarding.
When I first got the game, I thought it would be something I only spend a run or two on at a time. Then suddenly, I was spending 3-4 hours at a time with it. “One more time” fits this game well, as that’s literally what you’ll be saying as you play.
Co-op
This was a welcome addition to a game I already loved. You could now play with your friends, locally, and do these runs together. It was actually pretty challenging, as you don’t get every upgrade for yourself, you get them every other level up. If you die, whoever you’re playing with can help revive you by standing on your coffin, but the monsters also grow bigger if they touch you, so it’s a change of pace from the solo runs. I wrote a review on this, so please check that out if curious.
Cheap
If this release follows the releases prior, the base game should only cost $4.99 with DLC packs costings between $1.99 to $2.99, which come with new characters, weapons and maps. For all the hours that can be spent, this is an amazing deal. It’s the cost of a coffee at Starbucks or even less than.
My Backstory
Alright, so I’ve already talked about this above to some extent, but I wanted to speak on when I found this game and the impact it had on me. I first found this in 2022 not too long after the game released. It was still $2.99 on Steam back then, and it was more than worth the money. I spent hours upon hours with this on my Steam Deck.
The reason this is so important is how it really opened me up to the genre, and how ot made me go on to play games like Army of Ruin, Monster Panic, Whacking Hell, Cat Survivors and more. I now actively look for roguelike bullet hell shooters because of just how much fun they are and how simple they can be to just pick up and play.
Conclusion
Despite all the hours I’ve already sunk into this game on Steam and the Switch, I’ll absolutely be getting the PS5 version (it’s also releasing on PS4) as well on release day. It’s such a fun experience that I really encourage others to try.
If interested, I’ve written a review for Vampire Survivors for anyone on the fence. It’s also recommended to do your own research, but I think anyone with even a slight interest should make the plunge. I know I will be, again.
