Gran Turismo 7 Wheel or No Wheel?

If you’ve played (paid link) Gran Turismo 7, then you know it’s a pretty nice racing game. When I got into it, because of PSVR 2, I thought it would just be fun for a few laps and then I would be done for the day. However, soon I started looking at racing wheels and the like, after swearing I wouldn’t get one.

So, if you’re trying to decide if you want a wheel or not, then read on because I’ll go over why you may want one.

(Disclaimer: Since all my play time has been in VR, that’s the perspective I’ll be discussing)

Casual or Hardcore Racer?

I think this is something that is pretty important. If you plan to play this every few days, for maybe 15-20 minutes at a time, then I would not invest in a wheel. Considering a good one starts at $200, and some would argue $300 or more, then it wouldn’t be a wise investment.

Now if you’re someone who could sit and play for 30+ minutes daily or almost so, then you might want to consider getting one for a more realistic feel. Though all my time within the game is played in VR, the wheel really took hold after a day or so, and I can’t imagine going back to the (paid link) Dualsense controller.

What Wheel is Best?

This is something that will require more research than I am able to give you. My experience with them is limited to a single wheel and pedal. I got my (paid link) Thrustmaster T150 on sale for $200 and it hasn’t disappointed me so far. However, others have definitely said the (paid link) Logitech G29 is a step up from the Thrustmaster. It runs at $400 or so. Sometimes Amazon runs deals on them though, so perhaps keep an eye out.

My Own Experience

As I mentioned above, I bought a T150 in March. I’ve played probably 5+ hours on it since the purchase, and I wouldn’t go back to the controller now. Wheels offer a more involved, and more realistic way to drive your favorite cars, while also adding a bit of difficulty. I do recommend looking at this guide if you buy a wheel, given that each wheel has a sweet spot for the feedback. It made a huge difference once I got mine right.

See You on the Racetrack…

Alright everyone, the decision on wheel buying is ultimately up to you. I just wanted to put my 2 cents into the topic. I hope, regardless of what you choose, you just enjoy your time with Gran Turismo 7.
