If you’ve ever played Vampire Survivors or any rogue-like games at all, you may be familiar with the formula this game uses. If you typically avoid rogue-like games, then you’re missing out. We’re going to get a bit of backstory first here.
I’ve played games such as (paid link) Dead Cells, which if you’ve played it, you’ll know how awesome it can be. Vampire Survivors follows a similar structure. When you start, you’ll have a few different characters to choose from, each with their own stats and different weapons. As you adventure through the different maps, you’ll unlock new characters, either by opening coffins or reaching specific requirements.
On the first few runs, you may take notice that you have a limited number of weapons and equipment items. Each time you level up, you have the choice between upgrading an existing piece you have or choosing a new one. This is when it gets interesting, in my opinion.

Different situations will call for different weapons and items, but perhaps we’ll discuss that later in a different blog. The purpose here is to discuss why this game is so addicting and how you could easily spend an hour or more a setting. A few times, I know I played for 2 hours, maybe even 3 once.
Each run gives you the chance to do better. Oh, you just opened a new map? Go explore it. You died? Well, now you know that layout and can find your way around much better. You’ve found a new weapon? Sweet, now evolve it. The point is, this game gives you plenty of new characters to unlock and use, and if you use that said character, you can unlock their unique weapon, which then all the other characters have the chance of using.
Each map has secrets too, which can be a pain to discover but that’s part of the fun. Besides coffins, there’s also monsters to kill that act as a type of boss for that stage. Defeating these can unlock different rewards too. Speaking of those, you’ll also be collecting coins each run, to use towards either unlocking characters, because yes, you have to buy them or you’ll be buying upgrades to better your chances each time you play.
Starting to see why this game is awesome? Couple all this knowledge with the fact this game is cheap, I am talking $4.99 on Steam. When I got it, it was $2.99, and that was more than worth it then. Spend a bit of money on yourself, you won’t regret it. I’ve put right at 50 hours in, and still going.
This game is also a Steam Deck verified, which is just cool. To top all this off, there is additional DLC for $1.99 that adds more characters and another map to explore, and yes, I did buy it.

So, whether you read this and pass on the game or you run to grab it, it is entirely up to you. To the ones who do decide to buy, I hope you enjoy every second like I have.
