Let’s talk about something that a lot of people may not want to accept and for good reason. For the past 30 years, we have had Leon, Ada, Chris, Jill and some others as our star Resident Evil characters. Everyone seems to have a favorite but no one wants to discuss the very obvious.
They’re getting old. What? How dare I say such a fact? Let’s look at the numbers. Chris has to be close to 50, as Leon himself is 49 in (paid link) Resident Evil Requiem. Quite frankly, they all are in their 40s or 50s at this point. Now there is one matter to discuss before I get to the main topic but….
Viruses
It has been discussed that almost all of them have some sort of mutation to their blood thanks to the viruses they’ve come in contact with. Jill herself appears younger than she is, slowing her aging. Sherry, from what I know and remember has a virus that heals. Leon…who knows. Poor guy has been through a lot from his first day as a cop. Chris can punch a boulder, which has never been specified if that’s just his strength or a virus mutation, just throwing that out there. My point is, they all have or have had some virus mutation that may keep them around longer but the end result is…they’ll eventually die.
All the characters we know will be gone and a new generation will need to pick up the gun to fight another day. Resident Evil Requiem shown us a cure exists but who will get it and how much of it is there? Let’s be real, the game did not exactly specifiy how much existed. So this brings us to…
Grace

She’s young, she’s had a traumatic expedience and she could, very possibly, become a PTSD fueled agent. Okay is it possible based on the good ending of Resident Evil Requiem? Doubtful but her character could grow and evolve in the upcoming years. Obviously this isn’t hinted anywhere so take everything I say with a grain of salt but I think the road for that is being paved and is possible. For example, Leon also is fueled by a past of regrets and hardships. He saw himself in Grace, which is evident in a couple of scenes.
With proper training, Grace could go from FBI analyst to a field agent. Maybe even DSO like Leon. She’s certainly seen enough of the madness to know it exists.
20 Years From Now
I want to point out the obvious in a different way. We just hit the 30th anniversary for Resident Evil. This is a great milestone and I’m happy to see it. With that said, in 20 years, we’ll be at the 50th. If the characters age normally, this would make most of them in their 60s or 70s. Do you think they’ll be our fighting still? That’s the point I’m making. A new generation has to be made and established for the series to go on.
Conclusion
What will the future of Resident Evil hold? We’ll just have to wait and find out. In the meantime, do check out our review for Resident Evil Requiem as well as our speedrun tips and generalized tips for your first playthrough. Until next time, happy gaming!
