Not that long ago, I did an article talking about the similarities between Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes and Dead Space 3. After reading Cold Eternity, also by S.A. Barnes, I want to discuss the similarities between that novel and the Dead Space series. Let’s get to it.

Necromorphs
So, this absolutely blows a hole in the plot so if you haven’t read this book yet, you really need to turn back now.
The big secret about this book is that an alien form had infected a human, one who invited it in, to stay immortal. Sound familiar yet? Necromorphs from the Dead Space series were alien and would change humans into their likeness. The whole time I was reading about this, I could not stop thinking about the USG Ishimura and what happened there. It was so closely related.
Let’s not even get started on the fact that Halley kept hearing it crawl through the vents of the ship. If that doesn’t screen Necromorph, I don’t know what does.
Is S.A. Barnes a Dead Space Fan?
From what I’ve heard, no. Though what I know is all hearsay, I have no source to link to verifying what I’m about to say, but apparently she knew nothing about the games when asked during an interview over Dead Silence. Then later, in a different interview, she ignored the question.
Again, this is all hearsay, I have nothing to back it up, but I find it interesting none the less. I do hope that maybe one day we will get a more definite answer.
Conclusion
If you don’t already own a copy of (paid links) Dead Silence, Ghost Station or Cold Eternity, I absolutely recommend getting them all. The season is perfect for them. Will we ever know if S.A. Barnes has a liking for Dead Space? Who’s to say, but I am very eager for her future works.
