Finally, I can talk more freely about the Kirby Star Crossed World DLC from (paid link) Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I had been talking about it briefly during my What I’m Playing articles but tried to keep quiet until I could talk about it in detail. Let’s get to it.

Story

A meteor falls from the sky and suddenly our friends find themselves on a new adventure to rescue the scattered Starries in order to crystallize and contain the evil inside.

Gameplay

The gameplay for the DLC is more or less the exact same as the base game. Only this time, you’ll be trying to rescue Starries instead of Waddle Dee’s and with less levels to explore. I actually had a couple of problems with this.

The first is it feel lazy. The levels were not really new. They took levels from the base game and crystallized over them. Only one instance did I see something cool and that was in a water level. They took the water and separated it, making us walk between the water. Other than that, it was a lot of the same.

The last gripe is the bosses. They were, again, just crystallized versions of enemies from the base game. Even the final boss was a rehash, except for one certain part I don’t want to spoil. Overall, while the game is fun, it could have been better in design.

Graphics

Kirby on the Switch 2 plays at 60 fps and it shows. The game has never looked so nice, clean and as fun to play as before. I’ve played in both handheld and docked and it really allows the differences to show off.

Soundtrack

A solid soundtrack overall, one I think you can just enjoy. I’ve found myself humming the tunes just as the base game, so the music is good in my books.

Controls

These aren’t any different than the Switch 1 version, so they were still solid and easy to use. Again, I played mostly with a 2nd player with the (paid link) JoyCon sideways.

Replayability

The replay for the DLC relies on going back to collect the Starries, much like the base game was focused around the Waddle Dee’s. Unfortunately, the DLC only offers maybe a handful of levels so there isn’t a whole lot to really do after the fact, so I would say replay value is moderate.

Scores

Story: 7/10

Gameplay: 7/10

Graphics: 10/10

Replayability: 6/10

Conclusion

Considering you have to already own (paid link) Kirby and the Forgotten Land to play Star Crossed World, I would consider buying the (paid link) upgrade. The easiest way would be to buy a (paid link) used copy of the Switch version, then pay the $20. While the DLC might be short, it’s still a fun Kirby adventure.

If you didn’t read our review for the Switch version of Forgotten Land, go do that. As always, happy gaming everyone.
