We’re already halfway through the year. Many goals were set but how have we all faired? Let’s hop in.

Playing Horror Games

Since my last entry, I have beaten Dead Space 3 and did a review for it. Though if you count that as a horror game or not, that’s on you. I did write this article on the Dead Space 3 DLC, which felt more like a horror game within itself than the base game did. Other than that, I did try to go back and play the (paid link) Dead Space Remake on the Steam Deck but it unfortunately didn’t go very well. I also feel that it doesn’t line up with the original series, which I wrote about here.

Other than that, I did start playing games like Killing Antidote, which I really want to get back to, and some other smaller indie titles, but nothing worth mentioning at this moment. Hopefully my next update will be more fulfilled.

Game Development

Unfortunately, this is one area I have epically failed in this year. I have not been able to clear up any space to actually do this. In fact, I’ve just made the space situation worse. In the journey to increase sales for my business, which you can find here, I have bought way more inventory and thus, space issue.

Quarter 2 Gaming Goals Update

Last quarter was a mixed bag, but this time I’m happy to report mostly positive progress—one goal is even nearing completion. Let’s dive in:

📦 Reorganize My Collection – Final Stretch

I’ve cut my collection from over 3,000 games to around 1,600. Most of the downsizing came from selling off duplicates, games I didn’t care about or ones I already owned on preferred platforms. My next focus is locking in final numbers for retro systems—no more random pickups from garage sales or creating “FISH” games (First In, Still Here) I didn’t like.
The biggest hurdle now is upgrading to preferred versions of certain games. Some of these are significantly more expensive (e.g., trading a $40 title for a $200 one), so I’m slowly offloading less desired titles to help fund the “upgrades”—Rule of Rose being one goal. Thankfully, with modern games constantly getting ports, I don’t lose nostalgia by letting go of older versions of modern releases.

My rule going forward with modern games is to keep physical copies of personal favorites, digitize the rest. For retro systems, I’m leaning toward enhanced collections or flash carts to free up shelf space while still preserving the experience. I expect to settle around 2,000 games total. Still high, but manageable.

Overall the process helped me rediscover what matters. Letting go of things like PS3 HD ports of Kingdom Hearts was easy, while holding onto the original copies reminded me how much I loved the series. On the flip side, I sold off some past “favorites” without hesitation—clearly they didn’t hold up. Lol

On the organization side, I’m working on accessibility. My old storage method—compact cases—was convenient when the collection was small, but impractical for thousands of games. After downsizing, I’m exploring better solutions: folders or bins that hold 100+ games and allow quick browsing. The only problem is most products out there are built for 30-game storage, which doesn’t cut it for me.

My goal is to have a more efficient system finalized by year’s end.

🎯 Complete Unfinished Games – On Hold

This goal is officially on hold, thanks to the Switch 2. With games like (paid link) Donkey Kong, Kirby, Pokémon Legends, and (paid link) Story of Seasons coming soon, my focus is on new releases through early next year.

That said, the passion to finish older titles hasn’t gone away. I’m setting up a quick-access shelf of backlog games I want to hit in 2025–2026, so when the mood/opening strikes, I don’t have to dig them out.
I’ll also be cataloging my unfinished games and revisiting this goal next quarter. Who knows—some of the new games may end up in the backlog rotation.

🕹️ Complete a Game Series – Now Plausible

Last quarter I was unsure if I’d complete a full series this year. But now, with more free time, I’ve committed to completing this goal via (paid link) Dead Space. It’s short—just four games—and I’ve already finished the Remake in a month’s time.

Next up: the original trilogy. If all goes well, I’ll be reporting a full completion in the next update. (For deeper thoughts, check out my blog post on the Remake.)

📋 Games Played So Far (Q1–Q2)

Mini reviews coming in the end-of-year update on these. For now below is just a list of them and how I am playing/played them:

• Final Fantasy I Pixel Remaster – Platinum

Ape Escape (PS5) – Platinum

• Ape Escape (PSP) – Backlogged

• MLB The Show 25 – Slop filler

• Frogun – Casual

• CTR Nitro-Fueled – Casual

• Higurashi Part 1 – On Hold (Compatability issues)

• Dead Space Remake – Platinum

• Mario Kart World Tour – Casual

• Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma – Currently Playing

That’s it for now! I’ll pass the baton to my fellow author for their updates.

Gaming Goals: Current Progress June 2025

Intro 1: As a staff member of Insane Nerdy Culture, we declared 5 gaming goals we had for the year 2025. As we approach the halfway mark, how do I measure up compared to when I first set out?

Goal 1: The first goal stated was to go through my entire backlog and play through more games. This first started near the beginning of the COVID lockdown, but continued on here and there afterward.

How do I fair so far? Not great. Status is about the same. I still have more than 30+ games, spread across PC, Switch, and Xbox to play through, instead of acquiring more. I have added more physical copies to my library, but I should pick a couple of games and cycle through them to see what I can do. The last games I played were Switch games I bought within last year.

Goal 2: Record a list of all my games, spread across PC, Xbox, Switch and older Nintendo Consoles.

How do I fair now? I think out of all my starting goals, this one has made the most progress. I started using the Gameseye app to take a log of all the games I own. I have recorded a little over than 50 so far, but I have plenty more to go. I am going for at least 100 titles recorded that I currently own.

Goal 3: Complete as many games as possible.

How do I fair so far? Not great. So many games I have, but I haven’t made sufficient time to sit down and play all of them. This will change as the summer allows more flexibility for my workload at my main job. I’ve kept an eye on more collecting for video games and indie games, but I need to go for completion on games and seeing how many I can finish up before getting more under my belt.

Goal 4: Adding up to 5 new games to my recommendation list.

How do I fair so far: I would say I need to do better. I have been able to include some new titles in my rotation or wishlist, but nothing has been consistent. The key is to add more to a cumulative list of games I want to play, instead of just sticking with the same games I have. This also ties into goal 3, where I should stick to a couple of games, finish them up or progress through them far enough where I can comfortably switch over to a new game.
I will strive to find more games and compile my wishlist.

Goal 5: The goal was to go through a list of classic games I played as a kid and see if i can complete the series or buy them.

How do I fair so far? I have begun this quest to acquire older Pokemon DS and 3DS games, as well as getting the Commander Keen Collection next on Steam. Limited Run Games has helped me get older games that were remastered for Switch to add to my library I didn’t get a chance to play. The best example is the Castlevania Dominus collection. This Switch collection has a handful of games I never had the chance to play. I also got the Castlevanaia Advance collection as well.

I will keep going to get these games and play through them. A bonus title is the (paid link) Cowabunga collection. This has all the Ninja Turtles games in a collection that I get to play all over again.

Bonus Goal: Build online network of gaming friends again.

How do I fair now? I have reached out to older friends I haven’t seen in a while to connect with them and keep up with their lives. I’ve also jumped into more groups on Reddit to see what games I could share with others.

I’ll keep building, but one step at a time. I might not be able to capture the magic of natural meetings through the early days, but I will do my best to build new memories.
Overall Ranking: C-

I need to invest more time into developing at least two of my goals and incorporating gaming as part of my life again. I have dove into more multiplayer time with friends in Fortnite, but I want to make this a consistent thing throughout my week. I think if I combo this with setting up small lists as mini goals, I can accomplish more of my overall gaming goals throughout this year.

Conclusion

As you can see, some goals have been going alright while others have been either out to a halt or in my case, given up on completely. With half a year left though, maybe we can pull through. Alright, so that covers us for this time, we will give you guys updates next in September. Until then, enioy all the other articles in the near future and happy gaming.
