Metroid Prime 4: Primed or Slimed

The long-awaited gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4 has finally been revealed—and unfortunately, it was mostly cinematic slop…… Let’s break it down.

Seven years later, and this is what we get? Just a few seconds of gameplay mixed with a barrage of cutscenes. On top of that, maybe it’s just my borrowed McDonalds wifi, but the game looks blurry. It goes from looking alright to smudgy buttcheeks.

My guess? It’s using dynamic resolution scaling like many other Switch titles. Hopefully, the omitted release date means we’ll see an enhanced version on the Switch 2……..or atleast more consistent texture quality.

Beyond the “Vaseline filter” visuals, it seems Prime 4 is taking a different artistic direction. The art style feels reminiscent of Halo 4, and honestly, it gives off that same vibe. Just look at that alien—does it not scream “Elite” from Halo?

If your a Halo fan, you know Halo 4 is not a direction Metroid Prime should be heading, visually or narratively. Halo 4 had some strong moments with Master Chief and Cortana, but beyond that, its story was a mess. Info dumping, retconning lore and feels like someone’s bad fan fiction being incorporated into a pre-established universe. Just like the Sequel Star Wars trilogy.

From what we’ve seen, Metroid Prime 4 seems to be treading a similar path. Speaking of which—Samus now has psychic powers? There’s even what appears to be a third eye on her. Hopefully, I’m just overanalyzing, but this raises some serious concerns.

At the end of the day, I want Metroid Prime 4 to be a solid new entry in the series. I’d love for my concerns to be proven wrong, but for now, my excitement is cautious at best.
