If you haven’t seen, the rumors surrounding FireRed & LeafGreen coming to the Switch were true. You can even go pre-order both of them right now, each costing $19.99. The price isn’t shocking to me but one aspect is sure disappointing and that would be the online functionality.
Why It’s Important
Without online functions, you have to rely solely on local trading to complete your Pokedex. This isn’t necessarily a problem, because you should go meet up with friends and have fun with it. However, isolating online trading is a big issue if you’re busy and can’t find time to go out and trade. There’s also friends who live far apart who won’t get the same enjoyment, considering we also cannot battle that way either.
This also makes getting exclusive Pokémon and trade evolutions more difficult. While it is understandable that, yes, we all went through this years ago if you played years ago, it’s different now. Considering all of us have grown up and work, perhaps have families or other responsibilities, it’s more difficult to find the time needed to meet in person.
No Competition
Although these Pokémon titles weren’t part of the competitive Pokémon scene that has been around for the past so many years, it would have been cool to have the opportunity to have them. Obviously making this game online accessible would have taken more work but this seems a bit lazy.
Conclusion
Will you be buying one of these or perhaps both? I, myself, will be going with LeafGreen since I never had the chance to play the original release. I’m sure it will be a great time and I look forward to catching them all, the ones that are available to me that is. As always, happy gaming Pokémon trainers!
