Hello to all you great gaming readers out there. Are you looking to purchase a new Switch? Maybe the Switch Lite has caught your eye? Well, (paid link) Amazon has some refurbished Switch Lite systems that are cheaper than buying new. The question is, are they worth it?

We’re about to find out because I got one so you didn’t have to. Now, let’s discuss how this experiment went. Then you can decide if this route is for you.

First Appearance

Alright so right out of the box, we see it was nicely bubble wrapped with a charger. I did appreciate the effort that went into the packaging and at first glance, the system seemed in great shape. Now this was a system that they marked in excellent condition, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

A Closer Inspection

It was overall in the excellent condition that they said it was. The only small problem is there’s a scratch on the screen, which I’ll circle below.

Thankfully it isn’t something that I see a lot during gameplay so it doesn’t cause any significant problems. Now that we’ve checked out the initial condition, does it turn on?

Yes, it does and it even came with a battery charge. I’m not sure if this varies from system to system, meaning someone else could buy one that comes with 25% but mine came with at least 90% if not more. The only reason I don’t know the exact amount is I got swept up in the game I started and didn’t check for about 10 minutes. When I did, we were sitting at a nice 86% so this is why I said at least 90% when it came in.

Refurbished Price Vs New

The price for a refurbished console bounces around and it even varies depending on the color of the system you choose. For the turquoise like I chose, I paid $165.99 plus tax. Overall, you’re probably saving around $35-40 in the difference between this or a brand (paid link) new system at $199.99 which is the cost of a game or two at this point.

The Final Verdict?

It’s a pass! If you want to save some money, then I would say the refurbished Switch Lite is a good one. Yes, mine did come with a minor scratch but I’ve now used the system for about 5 hours and haven’t had any visibility issues while gaming. I think you’ll be safe.

The Nintendo Switch 2 just released with titles such as (paid links) Cyberpunk 2077, Bravely Default, Mario Kart World, Rune Factory and some other titles. Stay tuned for more articles in the near future.
