I recently had the pleasure of playing through Super Mario 3D World and now I get to write a review for it. This is for the (paid link) Nintendo Switch version. I had previously played this game before, both on the Wii U & Switch but I thought it would be great to play again. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

The gameplay is similar to that of the first 3D Mario game, Mario 64 and more alike to 3D Land which was on the 3DS. Only this time, you and 3 other players can work together to complete levels, each with their own stars to collect and stamps. There’s plenty of suits, both new and old, to grab and play around with. One of my favorites being introduced early is the cat suit.

You’ll be chasing after Bowser, no surprise, from world to world while collecting stamps and stars in each level. In the grand scheme of the game, the gameplay is pretty solid.

Graphics

These are a step up from the Wii U title but I wouldn’t say it’s a huge leap. They’re pretty nice though, so they’ll get a pass. Some of the levels, especially the sunset ones, look really beautiful and made me want to just sit and admire them.

Soundtrack

This Mario title has one of my favorite soundtracks from the entire series. It has some catchy tunes and memorable levels to go along with them.

Controls

I played this with a single JoyCon while the system was docked, but the experience was easy and fun. The controls were tight and I didn’t run into any issues. There is some motion controls I noticed, which if it you flip the JoyCon up and down real quick, your character will do a ground pound. Thought that was pretty neat. Overall, I would say they’re tight.

Replayability

While I feel most Mario titles can be visited time and time again, I do feel this game has a very high replay value. I’ve played it fully there times now and I know I’ll revisit it in the future.

Scores

Gameplay: 9/10

Graphics: 8/10

Soundtrack: 9/10

Controls: 9/10

Replayability: 10/10

Overall:

Conclusion

Super Mario 3D World is a game you can come back to time and time again and have fun each and every time. I cannot recommend it enough for anyone who is a Mario fan and has yet to play it. Go grab yourself a (paid link) copy today and have fun! Happy gaming everyone.
