I just did my review for Silksong and thus, naturally I wanted to go back to play Hollow Knight. If you’re new here and haven’t read this information prior, I actually jumped into Silksong blind. Now, obviously with it being a sequel, you may be thinking, “how could you?!” and truth be told, I just had to give it a shot for myself.

However, this also meant something when I started Hollow Knight. What do I mean exactly? Well, let’s discuss.

The Difficulty

Tainted

Hollow Knight is known to be a difficult game. This is good and all, except I think I ruined it for myself. How? Well, Silksong has been said to be even more of a challenge and I already have beaten that. So all of the bosses and enemies I’ve faced do far have been easy. I’m not saying I haven’t died, but it’s been very selective few times and half of them were my stupid mistakes.

I’m still in the beginning hours of the game though so we will see if that opinion changes and it knocks me down. I might be happy if it does. However, at the moment it feels like a step down from the difficulty I was playing on.

Story

Enhanced

Coming from what I know of Silksong and then going back to Hollow Knight has definitely put my in an interesting situation. When I first saw Hornet, it was a realization that I don’t know all of her story, which makes me want to play the game that much more to fill in the gaps that I don’t know about.

Enemy Patterns & My Fighting Style

Tainted

So for first time players, it might be more difficult to learn how enemies fight and also how to control our MC. This was not my case as most enemies follow similar patterns to that of the ones in Silksong. This has made fights much easier because I know what to expect and also, I’ve already honed my own playstyle.

Granted, I did have to adjust since Hornet has a farther reach with her needle compared to The Ghost’s nail, but there was a crest in Silksong that transformed her fighting style to more or less the same as the Ghost. I could have added this with the difficulty section but felt it deserved a bit more detail.

Conclusion

If you want to keep up with my playthrough, then come by and read my weekly articles about the Games I’m Playing. The game may not prove too challenging at the moment but we will see as my playtime progresses. Until next time, happy gaming!
