That time already, another month gone by. Granted, this was the short month but man do I have some games to discuss for these pickups. Let’s get started.

Gameboy Color

Dragonhym

I saw this was being released and available to purchase from GameStop, so I took the plunge. It technically is a Chromatic game but it plays on the GBC. I unfortunately have not had the chance to play any yet.

Nintendo Switch

Cusineer

So I bought this when it launched in 2023 on Steam. I played a decent amount then but never beat it. Well, I had to have a (paid link) physical when I learnt there was one.

As for what this game is, think Moonlighter. Instead of running a shop, you run a restaurant and explore dungeons to get your ingredients. It’s pretty fun and the dungeons aren’t easy either. You’ll find yourself with a decent challenge waiting.

Crowd Run

So this looked like a bad mobile game. However, I still wanted to see what it was like. Unfortunately, it lacks any depth. There are no upgrades. There’s nothing to do except run level after level. I thought we would get weapons or something but nope.

Life Bubble

At the surface, this game looked pretty cool. You’re on an abandoned planet, and you need to cut trees, mine rocks and other materials to make it back to your ship. I thought it would only be three or four planets at most but I’m on the second one with many above me.

The game is one big crafting mission, more or less. You go and get the materials needed to expand your life bubble, the dome that you have oxygen in to breathe comfortsnle, and when opening these areas, typically something new opens up to you such as the ability to create something you couldn’t before.

It’s overall a fun game, but it unfortunately gets monotonous after a period of time. I’m close to getting off the second planet and I’m struggling to play anymore than I already have. Yeah, you can sell your materials for upgrades to your speed, health, backpack space, and more but it gets old. I never quite feel like I’m making progress. I suppose we will see if I play more or not.

Sliding Cubes 2048 Mania

If you’re familiar with the game that is 2048, then you already have an idea of what this game is. It’s essentially that game, but you’re sliding the cubes against a wall. If two cubes of a match number meet, like two 2s, then they combine and make a 4. Then it just goes on from there until you finally max out on how many cubes you can have on the board, which is 20.

I made it to 2048 within ten minutes of playing, perhaps not even that long. It isn’t a bad game but it’s not as difficult as I thought it would be and I couldn’t even bring myself to write a review for it.

Shawley Zoo of Wonders

This looked interesting when I saw it being released, but unfortunately the game seems very lacking. The game started with very little sense of direction and you can tell it may not be the smoothest ride you get this year. However, that’s only my initial impressions after a couple of minutes. I’m yet to spend any real time with it. Check it out for yourself if you wish.

Dreamless

I was in the market for a horror game and this one seemed a little generic but fun. There’s a legend that every 25 years a teenager will go missing. That time has come again and our main character decides he needs some creepy video footage for social media. Where does he go? None other than the abandoned house of the deceased woman that the whole town thought was a witch.

We go there with a camcorder and start to investigate. I don’t want to give any more details since I’ll be doing a review for this sometime in the near future.

Ravenswatch

This is a roguelike that’s a bit different. You choose a character, whom all are based on fairytales, and go on a 3 day mission. You’re given 3 days, each featuring a day and night cycle, to level up and get as strong as possible before facing off against a boss.

I chose Red Riding Hood first, which I didn’t even finish out the 3rd day. I lost the boss fights and didn’t try again. I’m going to shelf this game for the moment and play it off and on when I feel up to it.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure

I have already said so much about this game lately from talking about why you shouldn’t time travel to how to upgrade your cabin. While it will be some time before I write a review, there will be plenty more articles in the future discussing this game.

If you haven’t gathered by what I’ve already written above, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a real treat to play. If you haven’t already done so, you can buy it digitally on the Nintendo Switch or Steam. There is also a (paid link) physical copy releasing on March 25th.

Also be aware that the team at Sunblink are working on a content update for Switch & Steam players to bring more to us.

Rogue Legacy

I’ve passed on this title so many times but finally bit the bullet when I saw it on sale for real cheap. It’s been a crazy, fun and harsh ride since. It took me a good amount of time to finally get enough money each run to get some upgrades in. Even after all this though, I’ve only managed to defeat one boss.

The game ia great though and I’ve been missing out the entire time. If you haven’t played it, then let me break it down.

You start with a warrior and they die. When they do, you choose the next in line, their child. You’re given three choices and each choice can have a different class or they have some kind of disorder. Such as one was colorblind. Another one forces you to play upside down, which went as well for me as you can imagine.

Papercut Mansion

I’ve been looking at this game for a while but finally grabbed it on sale. Unfortunately I am yet to spend any time on it.

Echoes of the Plum Grove

This seemed like a nice cozy game to get into. I made an article discussing it was coming to the Switch and here it is! If you don’t know this game, then allow me to explain.

You play generations of your family, working to build your farm, your legacy and foothold in a new town. Your family could end 3 generations in due to starvation or freezing to death, so you’ll have to watch your supplies and resources carefully.

I haven’t played much of this yet, but I’m eagerly awaiting my time to.

Slasher Origins

I’m always on the lookout for new roguelike titles. This caught my eye and I have to admit, it isn’t too bad. There seems to be a lot of content and I’ve barely scratched the surface of the game. It’s an auto shooter much like Army of Ruin, Vampire Survivors and Twilight Survivors.

PS4

Legend of Cold Steel 1 + 2

It was thanks to Downs that I learnt these games were getting reprints. I was quick to snag them up given how much they typically would cost. I spent $60 for both games so it was a fantastic deal.

Steam

Nunholy

Alright, yes this game looks a bit adult if you look it up, and it is to some extent but it’s also a challenging roguelike game too with some nice twists to the formula. You choose from three nuns, who are new to the church, and go out into the field to slay vampires and other monsters.

Whithering Rooms

I bought this from a bundle off of Fanatical. I already own it on the PS5 but I figured why not? Unfortunately, the text is a bit too small to comfortably read on my Steam Deck so I haven’t played much of it.

Final Words

Well, there we have it everyone, did you see any games you’ll be picking up from these February game pickups? I’m quite looking forward to March and beyond. Here’s hoping we have another terrific year of gaming.
