Following the Pokemon Presents yesterday morning, we received a ton of news about mobile games, a new game announcement titled Pokemon Champions and then we finally received more news in regards to the Pokemon Legends Z-A starters. So, which Pokemon do we get?

Chikorita

First up is the Gen II grass starter, Chikorita. Now, I can’t say I’m a huge fan of this Pokemon and I actually don’t know how this fits into the setting either. While Chikorita can be a fine Pokemon, it feels a bit off, in my opinion. Though I guess that’s yet to be determined since I’m hoping we’ve only seen the surface of the game.

Totodile

Another odd choice of sorts but I suppose it’s okay. I’m unsure why they chose two Johto starters for this game but I guess they’ll get a pass. Other people have started to create memes online over this as well, so it seems a few of us feel this way.

Tepig

The one starter that I felt the most okay with seeing. I’m not 100% sure why. Perhaps the anime had something to do with it since the city is where Ash got his but regardless, this is who I’ll be starting my journey with.

Overall Thoughts on the Trio

I’m not entirely taken with the choices this go around, I think there’s definitely better options out there like Piplup & Treeko but I guess they have a reason for what they have chosen.

Mega Evoltion?

One aspect I am curious about is Mega Evolution. We know it’s making a comeback, that was very clear in the trailer they shown. However, none of these starters currently have a Mega form so what does this mean? Will they be left out or will they receive new forms we haven’t seen yet?

Conclusion

I’m not entirely sure how to feel about the Pokemon Legends Z-A starters yet but I am a bit more excited after watching the new trailer for the game a couple more times. The battle system has my attention the most, but I believe that’s for a different blog.

For the moment, if you haven’t already played (paid link) Pokemon Legends: Arceus, then do yourself a favor and get it. I also wrote a review for that game not long ago so check that out if you’re on the fence.

Happy gaming!
