It was just a few months ago since I finished reading and reviewed (paid link) Hanging House. Now I’m back to discuss Caine House, the 2nd book in the Emmie Rose Mysteries series. Let’s get into it.

Synopsis

“Two amateur psychics. A reckless ghost hunter. Caine House has awakened, ready or not.

Emmie thinks the worst is over. Sarah hopes Emmie is right. But the apparitions of Hanging House haven’t deterred Finn from intensifying his hunt. He knows they’re real. And he wants more.

When a famous haunted house in a nearby town is put up for rent, Finn doesn’t hesitate to move in. How can he resist? It’s a ghost hunter’s paradise. With an arsenal of equipment, a healthy dose of skepticism, the bravado of knowing he’s “been through this before”, and a secret wound of his own, he’s ready to face the unseen head-on. What could go wrong?

But Caine House has its own agenda, and as Finn gets ensnared by its clever apparitions and violent mysteries, he realizes too late that he’s bitten off more than he can chew. And now only two people can help him.

Emmie and Sarah rush to the rescue, but soon face a nightmare of their own. Caine House is somehow connected to the death of Emmie’s parents, and Sarah needs to come to terms with her gift of empathy before it destroys her.

The three friends gather their courage and skills to confront the insidious phantom, but their foe is hellbent on maximum mayhem.”

Thoughts

More ghosts? Check. A dynamic trio of friends? Check. A French ghost? Check. This book has it all. Starting not far from where the first book left off, Emmie and Sarah decide to share Hanging House, and not long after, Finn signs a 6 month lease on a supposed haunted location, Caine House. Emmie and Sarah soon are invited over to scope the place out, and it’s evident something has gone wrong.

An old lady’s warning, a French girl who deceives and two psychics who must face more than what they bargained for. This book was a great second entry, having a nice separate story from Hanging House, while also pushing Emmie’s story forward in unexpected ways. I don’t wish to spoil anymore, but the series is on track and booming.

Score:

4/5

As I continue my journey into this series, I hope you follow along as I review each book. They have been great so far, and I hope they continue to be. Look for the third book’s, Hyde House’s, review sometime in the near future.
