Welcome to my How to Survive Your Murder review. The book certainly has some plot twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. Let’s get into it.
Synopsis
“Alice Lawrence is the sole witness in her sister’s murder trial.
And in the year since Claire’s death, Alice’s life has completely fallen apart. Her parents have gotten divorced, she’s moved into an apartment that smells like bologna, and she is being forced to face her sister’s killer and a courtroom full of people who doubt what she saw in the corn maze a year prior.
Claire was an all-American girl, beautiful and bubbly, and a theater star. Alice was a nerd who dreamed of becoming a forensic pathologist and would rather stay at home to watch her favorite horror movies than party. Despite their differences, they were bonded by sisterhood and were each other’s best friends.
Until Claire was taken away from her.
On the first day of the murder trial, as Alice prepares to give her testimony, she is knocked out by a Sidney Prescott look-alike in the courthouse bathroom. Thoughts:
Though the premise for the novel wasn’t anything particular new, it drew me in with the ideas of what if and could be situations. Following that route, I was pretty intrigued and entertained for a majority of the story.
Who was this angel? Who was the killer? Could Alice beat death? All questions that drove the story for me, and the surprising plot twist at the end. Even bigger than the reveal of who the killer was was the actual ending page, that left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Although Alice’s love for the horror genre made this book nice to read, with plenty of references to movies that I’ve seen and some I hadn’t, I definitely was rooting for the underdog sister. The one who was always in the shadow of her older sister finally had the chance to shine, but…it wasn’t all glimmer.
After everything that had happened, everything Alice had gone through and I was left with…that. I won’t reveal what happens, but the very last page hurt this particular How to Survive Your Murder review.

Final Words…
If you’re looking for a decent read, then it’s worth a shot. However, be mindful that it isn’t all rainbows and butterflies by the end. You’ll probably end up with a bitter taste too, but it’s okay for what it is.
