Hello, and welcome to the Mynk Baylor Interview! If anyone is not familiar with this author should go take a glance at her website. Also, her first book, Neophyte: The Little Angel, can be found on (paid link) Amazon.

1.) What started your adventure as an author?
“That’s a long story I don’t think we have time for haha.
I found out I could write in seventh grade, and my mom was excited, since she didn’t need to write my papers for me anymore. (At least the majority of them.)
Though, I started writing creatively at age thirteen, I’m thirty now. I still have the first short story I wrote and finished too. It’s thirteen pages, single sided or double sided I don’t remember, and I wrote it during English class. It was actually a romance story, believe it or not. Whenever I read it, I laugh and it’s a good laugh.
After I discovered I enjoyed writing and using my imagination, I decided to come up with a world at fourteen, Freshman year of high school. I called it AutoBurro Academy and I had my friends in my friend group create characters for it. (These friends of mine from back them are still friends of mine now and it’s all because of AutoBurro Academy ;])
This was my first huge step into writing fantasy/romance and I fell in love at the first words I wrote. Now, with that being said, I still haven’t finished the first book. Though, over the years, the world has grown much larger than I could have imagined.
This world has always had a special place in my heart, because it’s how I survived high school. Now, I didn’t have a terrible time, but it’s where I escaped to when I needed time away from the real world. I still do it to this day when I’m having a rough day. It’s always been my home away from home.”
2.) If you weren’t writing fantasy, what genre would you go for?
“Romance. Hands down. I am a lover of love in general, so the fact that I can create love for two characters of mine gives me a rush of excitement and giddiness. (Yes, the books I have out now have romance in them, but they aren’t strictly romance.)
I have also been interested in writing Horror/Thrillers. Nothing too extreme, but my mind likes to give me random ideas that seem really good for that genre.”
3.) Do you only write prose or do you write other forms too?
“Though, my main style of writing is prose, I have written some poetry that you can find on my website, shadowmynkbooks.com. I have also written a song or two that aren’t great (those aren’t posted anywhere for that reason lol)
Maybe I’ll publish a poetry book, you never know!”
4.) Who’s another author that inspires you to keep going?
“There are a ton of big name authors that I aspire to be, but those who are self-published and indie authors are ones who I cling to the most.
A certain author who I tend to admire the most is Quinn Loftis. She had started off as a self-publish author and has grown into the well-known author she is now for her giant series The Gray Wolf Series.
Another author who I have recently found, who writes steamy romances that are amazing, is a smaller author but still best selling is Kristen Granata. She is active on Instagram, where I actually found her, and always tries to comment and interact with her fans. I love it!
These two authors have helped me grow as an author in the genres I am writing, which I am grateful for.”
5.) What is your favorite story you’ve written?
“Oh Gosh, this is a tough one….I have so many that I love. (I mean, I love all of them lol)
If I’m being completely honest, I don’t have one favorite story. They are all my babies in different ways and all precious to me. I have written my books in different stages of life. They all have a piece of me and my emotions in them, whether it was hurt, anger, happiness, sadness, love, lust, fear, etc. They all hold a piece of me within their words and worlds. So, because of that, I just don’t have a favorite.”
6.) When do you believe your next book will be published?
“I don’t usually have deadlines for my books, publishing wise. It’s something that I have never been good with, but I am hoping to have a Halloween type of book (novel or novella, really depends on how long it ends up being) that I want to get out by October 1st. The reason for this is because there is a Friday the 13th in that month, plus Halloween and a full moon close to Halloween! The perfect time for a fluffy spooky fantasy romance story, right?
Otherwise, I hope to get the third book of the series that is already out on Amazon, The Little Series, at the end of the year or the beginning of next. I need to get motivated to edit it.”
7.) What would your advice be to new authors just starting?
“I would tell them to keep pushing forward, even if you have that one voice in the back of your head telling you you aren’t good enough. This voice has been the biggest struggle for me during my whole writing career, even when I wasn’t published, but the support system I have with my writing has helped me a lot.
I would also express that having a good support system that encourages your work is helpful too. Surrounding yourself with people who bring you up and cheer you on makes writing more enjoyable.
And one last thing, WRITE FOR YOU! I needed to be reminded of this recently by my best friend. She told me, “Make sure you are writing for you and not for anyone else.”
The reason for this? Because if you write for everyone else, it won’t be as deep and filled with emotion as the works you write for yourself. It’s like forcing an idea that shouldn’t be forced. (I know, I know, “don’t wait for inspiration”, but sometimes you need to.) Honestly, if you have a journal you want to fill up, write something random every day. Whether it’s a journal entry, a poem, a stupid idea for a story, a song, whatever it may be, write in there for yourself. Even if it’s terrible. (I’ve written my fair share of crap works.) It can always be edited and redone to be great. And who knows, maybe the next big idea of yours is in that journal ;)”
